CSM SOCCER FALLS TO METRO STATE, 5-1, IN RMAC SEMIFINALS

GOLDEN, Colo. - Metro State’s Zach Cousins scored two goals and added an assist to help lead fourth-seeded Metro State to a 5-1 victory over top-seeded Colorado School of Mines in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament semifinals on Friday afternoon at Brooks Field.

Antonio Porras put the Roadrunners on the board 29 minutes into the contest with a tally off an assist from Alex Grecu. Less than five minutes later, Chris Bolton netted his second goal of the season off an assist to make it 2-0 and Grecu scored on a penalty kick with 17 seconds to play in the first half to put Metro ahead 3-0 at the intermission.

Cousins added a pair of second half goals, while Mines senior midfielder Jared Peacock (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Highlands Ranch) recorded a penalty kick in the 64th minute for the Oredigger’s lone goal of the match.

CSM freshman Kevin Galloway (Colorado Springs, Colo./Air Academy) registered four saves, while Eric Butler posted six to earn the victory.

Mines concludes its season with an overall record of 9-11-1, while the Roadrunners advance to face second-seeded Fort Lewis in the RMAC Tournament Championship on Sunday at 12:00 pm at Brooks Field. The Skyhawks advanced with a 2-0 victory over CU-Colorado Springs in today’s second semifinal.

GOLDEN, Colo. - Six different players scored goals as the Colorado Mines soccer team picked up a 6-0 victory over Colorado Chistian in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action on Sunday afternoon at Brooks Field.

Sophomore forward Rafael Ribeiro (Colorado Springs, Colo./Palmer) put Mines on the board with a tally off an assist from senior forward O.J. Bullard (Houston, Texas/Klein Forest) 8:26 into the match. Senior midfielder Jared Peacock (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Highlands Ranch) added a penalty kick at the 19:37 mark to make it 2-0.

Sophomore forward Mike Dixon (Bakersfield, Calif./Garces Memorial) and freshman midfielder Ryan Koontz (Amarillo, Texas) added goals in the first half to give Mines a 4-0 lead at intermission. Junior midfielder Justin Buck (Colorado Springs, Colo./Columbia Falls) and freshman midfielder Nathan Budge (Parker, Colo./Ponderosa) contributed second half goals for Mines.

DENVER, Colo. - The Colorado Mines soccer team picked up three key points with a 1-0 victory over Metro State in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action Friday afternoon at the Auraria Fields. The win keeps Mines’ hopes alive of hosting next weekend’s RMAC Tournament.

A pair of freshman did the damage for Mines this afternoon as midfielder Nick Clausnitzer (Puyallup, Wash./Rogers) tallied his first career collegiate goal off an assist from midfielder Nathan Budge (Parker, Colo./Ponderosa) just 2:32 before halftime.

Mines freshman Kevin Galloway (Colorado Springs, Colo./Air Academy) posted eight saves to earn his third shutout of the season, while Eric Butler posted six saves for the Roadrunners.

Mines (8-10-1, 8-3 RMAC) is now tied for first place in the conference with Fort Lewis, which lost 3-1 at Regis this afternoon, as well as CU-Colorado Springs, a 2-1 double overtime winner at Colorado Christian. Each team plays its final regular season match on Sunday and official seeds and pairings for the tournament will be announced by the RMAC office following the conclusion of the regular season.

The Orediggers will conclude the regular season by hosting Colorado Christian at Brooks Field Sunday afternoon. Kickoff is slated for 1:00 pm.

MINES SOCCER FALLS AT CU-COLORADO SPRINGS, 1-0

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Colorado Mines soccer team fell to 7-10-1 overall and 7-3 in the conference with a 1-0 setback to the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs on Tuesday afternoon at Sand Creek Stadium in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.

The loss dropped Mines into a second place tie with the Mountain Lions, who improved to 9-6 overall and 7-3 in RMAC play. Both teams are one game (three points) behind RMAC leader Fort Lewis (10-5-1, 8-2 RMAC) and each team has two games remaining this weekend.

Jared Blackney scored the lone goal of today’s match just 15:53 into the contest. UCCS was forced to play the final 40 minutes of the match one man down due to a red card and withstood the the Orediggers outshooting them, 9-0, in the second half.

CSM SOCCER TOPS FORT LEWIS, 3-1

GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado Mines men’s soccer team climbed into a tie for first place in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference standings with a 3-1 triumph over Fort Lewis on Friday afternoon at Brooks Field. Both teams are now 7-2 in conference play with three matches to play. Mines improved to 7-9-1 overall, while the Skyhawks slipped to 9-5-1.

FLC jumped out to a 1-0 lead 15 minutes into the match as Adam Beach netted his first goal of the season of an assist from Ryan Parsons. However, the Orediggers would tally three unanswered goals to claim the win.

Senior midfielder Jared Peacock (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Highlands Ranch) got things started when he knocked in a cross from sophomore defender Brian Blaskovich (Littleton, Colo./Columbine) at the 37:10 mark to make it 1-1 at the half.

Senior midfielder Robbie Williams (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Texas Christian) then scored what proved to be the game-winner just 2:28 into the second half off an assist from senior defender Joel Flangan (Tulsa, Okla./Union). Sophomore foward Mike Dixon (Bakersfield, Calif./Garces Memorial) added an insurance goal at the 58:29 mark to give Mines a 3-1 lead. It was his team-leading seventh goal of the year.

Mines (6-9-1, 6-2 RMAC) jumped out to a 1-0 lead eight minutes into the match as sophomore forward Mike Dixon (Bakersfield, Calif./Garces Memorial) tallied his team-leading sixth goal of the season off an assist from senior midfielder Robbie Williams (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Texas Christian).

The Rangers (8-6-2, 2-4-2 RMAC) tied the match at 1-1 as Cody Berg scored off an assist from Lance Snodgrass 26 minutes into the first half. Neither team would muster another goal until Ribeiro’s heroics.

CSM SOCCER FALLS AT COLORADO STATE-PUEBLO, 3-2

PUEBLO, Colo. - Colorado School of Mines sophomore forward Mike Dixon (Bakersfield, Calif./Garces Memorial) scored two goals, but the Orediggers dropped a a 3-2 contest at Colorado State-Pueblo on Friday afternoon in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference men’s soccer action.

CSU-Pueblo (3-9-2, 2-4-1 RMAC) took a 2-0 lead at the half as Ryan Creager scored 55 seconds into the match and Erik Miller added a tally at the 39:03 mark.

Dixon put Mines on the board with an unassisted tally at the 63:42 mark, but the Thunderwolves regained a two goal advantage less than one minute later as Ben Adetoye converted a penalty kick. Dixon’s second tally of the match came at 86:56.

CSM senior O.J. Bullard (Houston, Texas/Klein Forest) registered three saves, while Mike Muravez posted three to earn the win.

GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines soccer team played fourth-ranked Incarnate Word to a 2-2 tie in two overtimes in nonconference action Sunday afternoon at Brooks Field.

Mines (5-8-1) claimed a 2-0 lead at the half thanks to goals from senior midfielder Robbie Williams (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Highlands Ranch) and sophomore forward Mike Dixon (Bakersfield, Calif./Garces). Junior midfielder Justin Buck (Colorado Springs, Colo./Columbia Falls) assisted on both goals.

However, the Crusaders knotted the game at 2-2 with a penalty kick from Lubomir Bogdanov at the 88:43 mark and a tally from Terry Alvino with six seconds to play. The teams then played a pair of scoreless 10 minute overtimes and the match ended in a draw.

GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines soccer team slipped to 5-8 overall with a 2-1 setback to St. Edward’s, the fourth ranked team in the Midwest Region, on Friday afternoon at Brooks Field.

CSM freshman forward Gaston D’Alessandro (Littleton, Colo./Columbine) gave his squad a 1-0 lead at the 56:38 mark when he tallied his second goal of the season.

The lead would hold until there was 3:48 left in the match when Shane Clark notched his fifth goal of the season off assists from Scott McNabb and Brent Hinze. The game-winner came just 46 seconds into overtime when Robert Descant netted his first goal of the season off a corner kick from Dustin Michalak.

Both players tallied one goal in each half, while Christian Bowers added two assists on the afternoon. The Pioneers (6-4-1) held a 20-7 advantage in shots and a 9-1 edge in corner kicks.

CSM SOCCER FALLS TO FIFTH-RANKED TRUMAN STATE IN OVERTIME, 2-1

GOLDEN, Colo. - Truman State’s Ricky Vigil netted his fourth goal of the season off a corner kick from Martin Clayes just 2:35 into the first overtime to lift the fifth-ranked Bulldogs to a 2-1 victory over Colorado Mines in nonconference men’s soccer action Friday night at Brooks Field.

CSM (5-6) took a 1-0 lead in the 31st minute as senior midfielder Jared Peacock (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Highlands Ranch) tallied his first goal of the season. Peacock gained control of the ball 40 yards away from the goal and took two dribbles to his left. He then sent a laser with his left foot that hit the upper right hand corner of the net to give the Orediggers the early advantage. It was the first goal Truman State had surrendered since Sept. 6 and only the third goal allowed by the Bulldogs (9-0) all season.

The lead would hold until the 76:08 mark when Clayes registered his fourth goal of the season to knot the match at 1-1.

Mines senior O.J. Bullard (Houston, Texas/Klein Forest) played the first 45 minutes in goal and posted four saves. Freshman Kevin Galloway (Colorado Springs, Colo./Air Academy) played the remainder of the match and also tallied four saves. Nate Gibson posted four saves to earn the victory for Truman.

CSM SOCCER FALLS TO WEST TEXAS A&M, 2-0

GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado Mines soccer team was shutout for the third straight time as West Texas A&M handed the Orediggers a 2-0 setback in nonconference action on Sunday afternoon at Brooks Field. It was just the second time in 10 matches this season that Mines has allowed more than one goal in a match.

WTAMU (5-3-2) opened the scoring at the 17:13 mark as Josh Fender tallied his sixth goal of the season. Collin Mabry started the play with a quick restart off a corner kick. Mabry sent the ball to the top of the 18-yard box and Sean Saunders fired the ball low toward the goal. Fender, with his back to the goal, flicked the ball past the CSM goalkeeper to give the Buffaloes a 1-0 lead.

The Buffaloes took a 2-0 lead just four minutes into the second half as Sherwin Connell scored off an assist from Trent Thomas.

GOLDEN, Colo. - Midwestern State’s Steven Fryer scored off an assist from Elliott Gallagher with 2:47 left in the match as the Indians handed Colorado School of Mines a 1-0 setback in nonconference soccer action Friday night at Brooks Field.

The Indians were forced to play the final 19 minutes of the match one player down due to a red card, but still managed to tally the only goal of the match.

Midwestern State, ranked ninth in the lastest Midwest Regional poll improved to 5-3 this season, while the Orediggers, ranked fourth in the latest regional poll slipped to 5-4 on the season.

GOLDEN, Colo. - Colorado Mines sophomore forward Mike Dixon (Bakersfield, Calif./Garces Memorial) scored off a rebound in the 105th minute to lift the Orediggers to a a 2-1 victory over Colorado State-Pueblo in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference soccer action Friday night at Brooks Field.

The win improves Mines to 4-2 overall and 4-0 in conference play, while the Thunderwolves fell to 1-2-2 overall and 0-2-1 in the RMAC.

Mines claimed a 1-0 lead at the half as senior midfielder Robbie Williams (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Texas Christian) netted a goal off an assist from senior defender Joel Flangan (Tulsa, Okla./Union) at the 34:30 mark.

CSU-Pueblo managed to knot the game at 1-1 and send it into overtime at Ryan Creager scored his first goal of the season in the 89th minute as he followed up a missed penalty kick. After a scorless first 10 minute overtime period, Dixon sealed the win for Mines with his second goal of the season.

CSM freshman Kevin Galloway (Colorado Springs, Colo./Air Academy) posted four saves to earn the victory, while Mike Muravez registered four saves in the losing effort.

Mines is scheduled to return to action on Sunday when it hosts Regis for an RMAC match beginning at 1:00 pm at Brooks Field. The Rangers lost at CU-Colorado Springs, 2-1, on Friday night.

CSM SOCCER BLANKS COLORADO CHRISTIAN, 5-0

LAKEWOOD, Colo. - The Colorado Mines soccer team won its third straight match and earned its second straight shutout with a 5-0 victory at Colorado Christian on Sunday afternoon. Junior midfielder Justin Buck (Colorado Springs, Colo./Columbia Falls) tallied two goals for the Orediggers, who managed 30 shots to just seven for the Cougars.

CSM (3-2, 3-0 RMAC) claimed a 1-0 lead at the half as Buck scored off a rebound. The Orediggers then added four goals in the second half to seal the victory.

Senior midfielder Robbie Williams (Highlands Ranch, Colo./TCU) netted a goal at the 64:19 mark off a corner kick from senior midfielder Jared Peacock (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Highlands Ranch). Buck struck again 12 minutes later as he scored off a cross from Peacock.

Sophomore forward Mike Dixon (Bakersfield, Calif./Garces Memorial) and freshman forward Gaston D’Alessandro (Littleton, Colo./Columbine) added unassisted tallies late in the game to provide the final margin.

CSM senior O.J. Bullard (Houston, Texas/Klein Forest) posted three saves to earn the shutout, while CCU keeper A.J. Kurtz stopped 15 shots.

The Orediggers will be back in action on Friday night when they host Colorado State University-Pueblo at 7:00 pm at Brooks Field.

MINES SOCCER SHUTS OUT METRO STATE, 1-0

GOLDEN, Colo. - Colorado Mines junior forward Scott Phipps (Littleton, Colo./Columbine) scored his third goal of the season to lift the Orediggers past Metro State, 1-0, in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action Friday evening at Brooks Field.

In the ninth minute of the match, a Metro defender played the ball back to the goalkeeper who tried to clear it. However, Phipps blocked the clear toward the goal and hammered it home for the lone goal of the match.

CSM freshman goalkeeper Kevin Galloway (Colorado Springs, Colo./Air Academy) posted five saves to earn his first career shutout, while Metro’s David McReavy registered two saves in a losing effort.

CSM will be back in action on Sunday when it travels to Colorado Christian for a 4:00 pm kickoff.

CSM SOCCER TOPS CU-COLORADO SPRINGS, 4-2

GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado Mines soccer team finally scored some goals and broke into the win column in 2003 with a 4-2 victory over CU-Colorado Springs at Brooks Field in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action. CSM (1-2) was shutout two times over the weekend in Salt Lake City, Utah to open the season.

The Orediggers jumped on the board 22 minutes into the game as junior forward Scott Phipps (Lakewood, Colo./Columbine) scored. The assist went to junior defender Brian Blaskovich (Littleton, Colo./Columbine). Sophomore forward Rafael Ribeiro (Colorado Springs, Colo./Palmer) made it 2-0 when he put home a pass from senior midfielder Jared Peacock (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Highlands Ranch) at the 35:26 mark.

Mines pushed its lead to 3-0 at the 58:40 mark as Blaskovich headed in a corner kick from Peacock. However, UCCS added goals from Oscar Velasco and Art Cutter to slice its deficit to 3-2 with 19 minutes to play.

But the Orediggers sealed the win as Phipps notched his second goal off the game off assists from freshmen Daniel Lockley (Spring, Texas/Klein) and Gaston D’Alessandro (Littleton, Colo./Columbine).

CSM freshman goalkeeper Kevin Galloway (Colorado Springs, Colo./Air Academy) registered three saves to earn his first career victory, while Matt Mitchell made four saves for the Mountain Lions in 62 minutes of action.

MINES SOCCER FALLS TO WESTMINSTER IN OVERTIME, 1-0

WEST JORDAN, Utah. - The Colorado Mines men’s soccer dropped its second match in Salt Lake City, Utah as Westminster College handed the Orediggers a 1-0 setback in overtime.

Xadier Gonzalez tallied the lone goal of the match 6:28 into overtime off an assist from Chad Gilbert. It marked the second time in as many games this season that Mines lost 1-0.

Both teams recorded 13 shots, while the Orediggers held an 18-5 advantage in corner kicks. Freshman goalkeeper Kevin Galloway (Colorado Springs, Colo./Air Academy) notched three saves in the losing effort.

Mines will be back in action when it hosts CU-Colorado Springs for a 7:00 pm match at Brooks Field on Wednesday night. It will be the RMAC opener for Mines.

CSM SOCCER DROPS SEASON OPENER TO VANGUARD, 1-0

WEST JORDAN, Utah. - The Colorado Mines men’s soccer team fell to Vanguard University, 1-0, in its season opener on Friday afternoon at Westminster College. Vanguard improved to 2-0 with the victory.

The Lions tallied the lone goal of the game 19 minutes in as Jarrett Borrego delivered a ball to the far post to beat the Mines goalkeeper. Matt Hess registered the assist.

CSM will be back in action on Sunday afternoon when it plays at Westminster. Kickoff is slated for 1:00 pm.
