CSM MEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO METRO STATE
IN FIRST ROUND OF RMAC PLAYOFFS PUEBLO, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines men's soccer team fell 3-2 in double overtime to the Metro State Roadrunners Friday afternoon in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament. Metro State took the lead just nineteen minutes into the first half, with a goal from Mark Crombie. Mines forward Craig Thompson (Littleton, Colo./Highlands Ranch) tied the game at one after a penalty shot made in the 31st minute of the first half. Just six minutes later, the Orediggers found themselves up by one after a goal made by defender Daniel Lockley (Spring, Texas, Klein). Metro wouldn't go away however as Andrew Donnelly answered back with a goal just ten minutes into the second half. After a scoreless first period of overtime, Metro State's Mike Martinez found the back of the net with only 47 seconds remaining, ending the game at 3-2. Thompson and senior defender Daniel Lockley (Spring, Texas/Klein) were both named to the all-tournament team. -OREDIGGERS- CSM MEN'S SOCCER ENDS'S REGULAR SEASON WITH - WIN OVER REGIS DENVER, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines men's soccer team wrapped up regular season play Sunday afternoon with a 1-0 win over Regis University. Mines ends the regular season with a 13-6-1 overall record and a 9-3 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Record, which ranks them second in the RMAC behind Fort Lewis College. Mines beat Regis after a second half goal scored by forward Craig Thompson (Littleton, Colo./Highlands Ranch) that was assisted by Brian Law (Englewood, Colo./Cherry Creek). Goalkeeper Kevin Galloway finished with his second shutout of the weekend, ending the game with four saves. Mines will face Metro State on Friday afternoon at Fort Lewis College in the first round of the RMAC Tournament. Game time is at 11:30 am. -OREDIGGERS- CSM MEN'S SOCCERTOP'S METRO STATE, 1-0 DENVER, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines men's soccer team came away with a 1-0 win over Metro State College this afternoon. After a scoreless first half, CSM forward Max Neverman (Brooksfield, Wis./Brooksfield Central) finally was able to find the back of the net, as he scored the games only goal with only twelve minutes remaining in the game. Nevermann's goal was his fifth of the season, and gave the Orediggers the win over the Roadrunners. Mines beat the Roadrunners after they dropped a heartbreaker earlier this season at home, 2-1 to them. The win improves Mines' record to 12-6-1 and 8-3 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while Metro falls to 12-5-1 and 8-3 in the RMAC also. Mines will return to action with its last regular season game of the season, on Sunday, when they will travel to face Regis University, game time is at 1:00 pm. -OREDIGGERS- CSM MEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO FORT LEWIS, 3-2 GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines men's soccer team fell short to the defending National Champions, Fort Lewis College Friday night, 3-2. Mines was the first to score when Masaki Hemmi (Carlsbad, N.M/Las Cruces) scored off of a Nao Lee (Thornton, Colo./Horizon) throw in. It didn't take long however for the Skyhawks to answer back. John Cunliffe scored the first goal for Fort Lewis that tied the game at 1-1. Just three minutes later, the Skyhawks found the back of the net again as Cunliffe connected with Ben Gantenbein, giving Fort Lewis a 2-1 lead. Once again, Cunliffe found the back of the net, scoring his second goal of the night, putting the Skyhawks up, 3-2. The three goals came over an eight minute span. With just six minutes remaining, the Orediggers scored their second goal of the night, when Craig Thompson (Littleton, Colo./Highlands Ranch) made a penalty shot. The Orediggers fell to 11-6-1 and 7-3 in the conference while Fort Lewis improves to 13-1 and 9-0 in the conference. Mines will return to action next Friday with an away game against Metro State College at 3:00 pm. -OREDIGGERS- CSM MEN'S SOCCER BLANKS COLORADO CHRISTIAN, 6-0 GOLDEN, Colo. - Colorado School of Mines junior defender Brian Law (Englewood, Colo./Cherry Creek) scored the first and game winning goal, to lead the Oredigger men's soccer team to a 6-0 win over Colorado Christian University in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action Wednesday night at Brooks Field. Also scoring goals were, Nick Kubala (Houston, Texas/Taylor), Jason Decker (Butte, Mont./Butte), Ross Davis (Muskegon, Mich./Muskegon), Max Neverman (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield Central) and Drew Werth (Littleton, Colo./Chatfield). Senior goalkeeper Kevin Galloway (Colorado Springs, Colo./Air Academy) recorded two saves to earn the shutout. EDWARDS 2-1 DURANGO, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines men's soccer team bounced back after a 2-1 loss Friday night, with a 2-1 win over St. Edward's Sunday afternoon. After a scorless first half, Craig Thompson (Littleton, Colo./Highlands Ranch) scored the first goal of the game off of a penalty kick just five minutes into the second half. Just two minutes later, Thompson found the back of the net again, off of an assist by Ted Decker (Butte, Mont./Butte). St. Edward's scored in the 65th minute of the game to cut the Orediggers lead to only one. Mines will return to action Wednesday night with a 7:00 pm game against Colorado Christian. -OREDIGGERS-
CSM MEN'S SOCCER LOSES TO INCARNATE WORD, 2-1 DURANGO, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to eighth-ranked Incarnate Word in nonconference soccer action Friday afternoon at Fort Lewis College. CSM (9-5-1) jumped on the board just 11 minutes into the match as sophomore defender Grant Manthey (Ferndale, Wash./Ferndale) netted an unassisted goal. However, UIW (10-0-2) received second half goals from Danny Juarez and Jamie Scope to claim the win. Scope's game-winner came with just under five minutes to play. The Orediggers will return to action on Sunday when they play St. Edward's at 11:00 am in Durango. -OREDIGGERS- CSM MEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO MIDWESTERN 1-0 WICHITA FALLS, Texas - The Colorado School of Mines men's soccer team fell to Midwestern State this afternoon with a score 1-0. After playing 87 minutes the match was still tied, 0-0. But with only two and a half minutes remaining, Midwestern found the back of the net when Ahmad Ihmeidan connected with Obed Becerra. Goalkeeper Kevin Galloway (Colorado Springs, Colo./Air Academy) had eight saves in the game. The Orediggers fell to 9-4-1 while Midwestern improved to 9-2-1. The men will return to action Friday with a game against Incarnate Word. The game will be played in Durango, Colo. at the Fort Lewis Campus at 1:00. -OREDIGGERS- CSM MEN'S SOCCER TOPS WEST TEXAS A&M, 1-0 WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Colorado School of Mines junior forward Ross Davis (Muskegon, Mich./Muskegon) scored his third goal of the season at the 23:43 mark of the first half to lead the Orediggers to a 1-0 win over West Texas A&M in nonconference soccer action Friday afternoon at Midwestern State. Senior goalkeeper Kevin Galloway (Colorado Springs, Colo./Air Academy) posted six saves to earn the shutout for CSM. The Orediggers (9-3-1) will return to action on Sunday when they play at Midwestern State at 11:00 am. -OREDIGGERS- CSM MEN'S SOCCER WINS AT CSU-PUEBLO, 2-1 GOLDEN, Colo. - Colorado School of Mines junior forward Nao Lee (Thornton, Colo./Horizon) scored 2:31 into the match and senior defender Daniel Lockley (Spring, Texas/Klein) added his first goal of the season 34 minutes later to lead the Oredigger men's soccer team to a 2-1 win at Colorado State-Pueblo in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action Tuesday afternoon at Rawlings Sports Complex. The match was a make-up from the original match on Sept. 1 that was postponed due to weather. CSU-Pueblo (5-4-1, 4-4 RMAC) received a late goal from Andrew Jensen with 1:02 left, but could not score the equalizer. CSM senior Kevin Galloway (Colorado Springs, Colo./Air Academy) registered four saves to earn the win. Game time is at 2:00 pm in Durango, Colo. -OREDIGGERS- CSM MEN'S SOCCER GETS 2-1 WIN OVER YORK COLLEGE LAKEWOOD, Colo. - Colorado School of Mines defender Nick Clausnitzer (Puyallup, Wash./Rogers) scored with 14 minutes remaining in the game to give the Orediggers a 2-1 win over York College this afternoon. After going into half down 1-0, the Orediggers came out to score two unanswered goals, giving them the edge over the Panthers. Brian Law (Englewood, Colo./Cherry Creek) scored his third goal of the season, twenty four minutes into the second half, tieing the game at one. Mines returns to action tomorrow night with a 5:00 match against the York College Panther again. -OREDIGGERS- CSM MEN'S SOCCER BLANKS COLORADO CHRISITIAN, 5-0 LAKEWOOD, Colo. - Colorado School of Mines freshman forward Max Neverman (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield Central) scored two goals to help lead the Orediggers to a 5-0 victory over Colorado Christian in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action Wednesday afternoon at CCU Field. Junior defender Brian Law (Englewood, Colo./Cherry Creek) started the scoring with an unassisted goal at the 39:32 mark of the first half. Neverman made it 2-0 just before halftime with his first goal of the game. Junior forward Ross Davis (Muskegon, Mich./Muskegon), junior midfielder Craig Thompson (Littleton, Colo./Highlands Ranch) and Neverman added second half goals for CSM. Senior Kevin Galloway (Colorado Springs, Colo./Air Academy) and sophomore Kevin Thurman (Littleton, Colo./Littleton) combined to make two saves to post the shutout. CSM (3-2-1, 3-1 RMAC) is slated to return to action Thursday afternoon when it plays York College at 2:00 pm at Colorado Chrisitian. -OREDIGGERS- Mines Men's Soccer Team Gets Win Over Regis University GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines men's soccer team came away with a 2-1 victory over Regis University Sunday night at Brooks Field. With the win Mines improves their overall record to 2-21 while they now are 2-1 in The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Mines got out to one of the quickest leads, as they scored just twenty six seconds into the game. The first goal was scored by defender Brian Law (Englewood, Colo./Cherry Creek). Mines held on the their 1-0 lead going into halftime. Regis tied the game at 1-1 five minutes into the second half, when Mike Burns found the back of the net. Freshman Max Neverman (Brooksfield, Wis./Brooksfield Central) scored the game winning goal for the Orediggers at the 71 minute mark. Mines returns to action Wednesday with game at Colorado Christain. Game time is at 3:00 pm. -OREDIGGERS- CSM Men's Fall 2-1 to Metro State GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines men's soccer team fell to the Metro State Roadrunners Friday night, 2-1 Craig Thompson (Littleton, Colo./Highlands Ranch) scored his fourth goal of the season and Mines' lone goal Friday night against Metro State. Thompson's goal came at the 23 minute mark in the first half, after he connected on a Grant Manthey (Ferndale, Wash./Ferndale) corner kick. Thompson tied up the game 1-1, after Metro State's Shaun Elbaum scored just thirteen minutes into the game. Metro State's Ken Weigang scored with just six minutes remaining in the first half, making the final score 2-1. Oredigger goalkeeper Kevin Galloway (Colorado Springs, Colo./Air Academy) ended the night with six saves. Mines outshot the Roadrunners 19-14. Mines will return to action Sunday night with a 7:00 home game against the Regis Rangers. -OREDIGGERS- CSM Men's Soccer Crush UCCS 5-0 GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines men's soccer team, rolled to a 5-0 victory over UC-Colorado Springs Sunday afternoon. After a two goal lead going into halftime, the Orediggers came out hot as they went on a three goal scoring spree in just ten minutes of the second half. Mines first goal came from a penalty kick made by Craig Thompson (Littleton, Colo./Highlands Ranch) just eleven minutes into the game. Thompson also netted the second goal of the match to make it 2-0 at half. The Orediggers third and fifth goals were scored by Cameron Brown (Monument, Colo./Lewis Palmer) and Nick Clausnitzer, (Puyallup, Wash./Rogers) while the fourth was deflected off of a UCCS player. Goalkeeper Kevin Galloway (Colorado Springs, Colo./ Air Academy) came away with his first shutout of the season, saving five shots. The win is Mines' first of the season and puts them 1-1-1 overall and 1-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Mines will return to action with a home game on Friday night at 7:00 pm against Metro State. CSM Men's Soccer Ties Southern Illinois, 1-1, After Double Overtime GOLDEN, Colo. - For the second game in a row, the men's soccer team found themselves going into overtime. After two ten minute sudden death OT's, Mines came up with a 1-1 tie against Southern Illinois University- Edwardsville. After a scoreless first half, CSM defender Daniel Lockley (Spring, Texas/Klein) connected with junior forward Craig Thompson (Littleton, Colo./Hihglands Ranch) just three minutes into the second half, giving Mines a 1-0 lead over SIU. Thompsons goal was his second of the season. With just ten minutes remaing in the game, SIU answered back with a header off of a corner kick tieing the game at one and sending it into overtime. After two scoreless overtime periods, Mines ended with a 1-1 tie, making their record 0-1-1. Mines will return to action this weekend with two road games. Friday Mines will face CSU-Pueblo and UC-Colorado Springs on Sunday. -OREDIGGERS- CSM Drops Season Opener in Double Overtime to Northeastern Oklahoma, 2-1 GOLDEN, Colo. - After double overtime the Colorado School of Mines men's soccer team dropped a heartbreaker to Northeastern State University, 2-1. After a first half penalty kick made by Craig Thompson, the Orediggers jumped out to a 1-0 lead. NSU's Clark Bradford answered back six minutes later tieing the game up. After a scoreless second half, the game was sent into overtime. After 10 minutes and still no score, the Orediggers found themselves playing the second and final overtime period. Six minutes into the second overtime period, Clark Bradford connected with Jordan Leach on a free kick. Leach headed the ball in, giving NSU the victory. Mines fell to 0-1 on the season. The Orediggers will return to action with a home game Sunday afternoon against SIU-Edwardsville, game time is slated for 12:00 pm. -Orediggers- |
