CSM MEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO FORT LEWIS IN RMAC FINALS

DENVER, Colo. (November 4, 2007) - The Colorado School of Mines men's soccer team dropped the RMAC Tournament Championship match on Sunday afternoon to No. 22 nationally ranked Fort Lewis College 3-0. For the box score, click here.

After going into halftime tied at 0-0, Fort Lewis went on an 11-minute scoring spree in the second half, as they scored in the 50th, 55th and 61st minutes.

The Orediggers couldn't seem to answer back Sunday afternoon after firing six shots with no luck of a goal.

CSM's Craig Thompson, this year's RMAC Player of the Year and Academic RMAC Player of the Year, ended the day with two shots on goal.

Despite the loss, Mines had four individuals named to the RMAC All-Tournament Team. Nick Kubala, Brian Lacinski, Cody Moore and Drew Werth all were named to the All-Tournament Team for their play in both the win over Metro on Friday and Sunday's loss to Fort Lewis.

The Orediggers finish the 2007 season with an overall record of 11-9-2.

OREDIGGERS ADVANCE TO RMAC CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH
WITH 3-2 VICTORY OVER #9 METRO STATE IN RMAC SEMIFINALS

DENVER, Colo. (Nov. 2, 2007) - Fourth-seeded Colorado School of Mines defeated #1 seed and host Metropolitan State College of Denver by the score of 3-2 in the semifinal round of the 2007 RMAC Men's Soccer Tournament on Friday afternoon at Auraria Field in Denver. For the box score, click here.

Nick Kubala's ninth goal of the year, courtesy of a Drew Werth assist, at 2:41 provided CSM with an early 1-0 advantage. The Roadrunners, who came into the contest ranked ninth in the country (NCAA Division II), tied the affair at one apiece just four minutes later (6:33) when Kellen Johnson notched his fifth goal of season (Ola Sandquist assist).

Brian Lacinski's unassisted score (second goal of 2007) at 17:56 vaulted CSM back into the lead, but MSCD answered with a Garrett Sadusky goal (#4, Mark Cromie assist) at 27:21 and the crosstown RMAC rivals found themselves knotted at 2-2 heading into halftime.

With 15 minutes remaining in regulation (74:52), CSM's Cody Moore redirected a Lacinski cross with a header that found the back of the net (#3 on the season) to provide the margin of victory.

Oredigger goalkeeper Kevan Thurman (90:00) made six saves en route to improving his personal record to 10-5-2.

Ryan Vickery (90:00) recorded three saves for the Roadrunners (16-2-3 overall), who lost for just the second time this fall.

With the win, the Orediggers (11-8-2 overall) will now square off against second-seeded and 22nd-ranked Fort Lewis College in the RMAC Championship Match on Sunday, Nov. 4th, at 2:30 p.m. at Metro State's Auraria Field.

CSM MEN'S SOCCER FALLS SHORT AT METRO STATE

DENVER, Colo. (Oct. 28, 2007) - The Colorado School of Mines men's soccer team fell short to the Metro State Roadrunners on Sunday afternoon by the score of 2-1.

The Orediggers got off to a quick start against the Roadrunners, as Craig Thompson scored the first goal of the game just 12 minutes in. Metro answered back with just seven minutes remaining in the first half with a goal from Steven Emory. Metro scored again to take a 2-1 lead just four minutes into the second half.

With the loss, Mines finishes the regular season at 10-8-2 overall (7-6-1 RMAC). The Orediggers have qualified as the #4 seed in the upcoming RMAC Tournament.

The Orediggers will face #1 seed and host Metro State for the third time this season on Friday, November 2nd, in the semifinal round of the RMAC Tournament. Game time is set for 7:30 pm at Auraria Field.

CSM MEN'S SOCCER DROPS 4-3 MATCH AT REGIS

DENVER, Colo. (Oct. 26, 2007) - The Colorado School of Mines men's soccer team fell to Regis University on Friday afternoon 4-3 in overtime.

Mines and Regis were back and forth the entire game, but luck fell on the Rangers' side as they scored the game-winning goal four minutes into overtime.

Ross Davis put Mines on the board first with an assist from Nao Lee. Regis answered back with two goals to go ahead by one. Mines then tied it up with a goal from Cody Moore. Once again, Regis took the lead in the 63rd minute, but the Orediggers' Craig Thompson connected on a penalty kick to tie the game up at three apiece and send it into overtime.

Regis' Sam DePetro put the match away with his game-winning goal in the 98th minute.

CSM will return to action Sunday with a game at Metro State.

CSM MEN'S SOCCER IMPROVES TO 10-6-2 WITH 2-0 WIN OVER MESA STATE

GOLDEN, Colo. (Oct. 22, 2007) - The Colorado School of Mines men's soccer team improved to 10-6-2 overall and 7-4-1 in the RMAC after a 2-0 victory over Mesa State this afternoon at Brooks Field.

The Orediggers jumped out to a 1-0 lead after a Nao Lee throw-in found the foot of Craig Thompson, who put it into the back of the net 20 minutes into the first half. Sixteen minutes later, Kenan Bisic scored his second goal of the season with a shot from 20 yards out.

After a scoreless second half, the final score was 2-0 in favor of the Orediggers.

Mines will wrap up regular-season play this weekend with road games at Regis University and Metro State.

CSM MEN'S SOCCER FALLS IN LAST MINUTE TO FORT LEWIS COLLEGE

GOLDEN, Colo. (Oct. 19, 2007) - The Colorado School of Mines men's soccer team fell to the Fort Lewis Skyhawks 3-2 after David Oberholtzer scored with just one minute remaining in the game.

The Skyhawks got on the board first with a goal nine minutes into the game. The Orediggers' Craig Thompson tied the game at one a piece after his goal just four minutes into the second half. Mines took a 2-1 lead after Grant Manthey assisted on a goal by Nick Kubala.

The Skyhawks answered back 11 minutes later, tying the game up at two. With just one minute remaining in the game, overtime looked inevitable, but then a shot from 15 yards out by Fort Lewis' Oberholtzer put the game away at 3-2.

Mines will return to action on Sunday afternoon with a home game against Mesa State at 12:00 pm.

CSM MEN'S SOCCER DEFEATS COLORADO CHRISTIAN 4-1

LAKEWOOD, Colo. (Oct. 17, 2007) - The Colorado School of Mines men's soccer team defeated Colorado Christian University Wednesday afternoon 4-1.

Mines improves to 9-5-2 overall and 6-3-1 in the conference with the win.

The Orediggers scored three unanswered goals in the first half of the game. John Moseley, Nick Kubala and Kenan Bisic all were able to find the back of the net. Craig Thompson scored the Orediggers lone goal in the second half. Nick Kubala, Nao Lee and Kenan Bisic all tallied an assist on the day.

CCU got on the board in the 65th minute making the final score 4-1.

The Orediggers will return to action Friday with a game against arch rivals Fort Lewis College at 7:00 pm.

CSM SOCCER DROPS CONFERENCE MATCH TO CSU-PUEBLO

PUEBLO, Colo. (Oct. 15, 2007) - The Colorado School of Mines men's soccer team fell to 5-2-1 in the RMAC after a 1-0 setback to CSU-Pueblo Sunday afternoon.

The Thunderwolves got off to a quick start after Udobong Obotette scored just 48 seconds into the game on Sunday, giving them a 1-0 lead. The goal ended up being the only goal scored in the 90 minute game.

The Orediggers outshot the Thunderwolves 13 to 11 but were unable to find the back of the net.

Both Denver Williams and Kevan Thurman saw time in the goal and both ended with two saves apiece.

The Orediggers will return to action Wednesday October 17th with a game at Colorado Christian.

CSM SOCCER PREVAILS 2-1 OVER UCCS IN OVERTIME

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Oct. 12, 2007) - The Colorado School of Mines men's soccer team overcame the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs Mountain Lions Friday night after Cody Moore scored the game winning goal three minutes and thirty-five seconds into overtime. UCCS got on the board first 22 minutes into the first half when Jeff Gerali headed it in off of a corner kick. The Orediggers answered back just eight minutes later with a goal from Ted Decker.

After a scoreless second half the game was sent into overtime.

Mines improves to 8-4-1 overall and 5-2-1 in the conference with the win.

The Orediggers will return to action Sunday afternoon in Pueblo when they will face CSU-Pueblo in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference soccer match.

CSM SOCCER COMES UP SHORT AGAINST MIDWESTERN STATE

GOLDEN, Colo. (Oct. 7, 2007) - The Colorado School of Mines men's soccer team fell short to the Midwestern State Mustangs this afternoon by the score of 2-1. For a complete box score, click here.

The Orediggers found themselves down 2-0 after the first half of play Sunday afternoon. But a goal late into the second half gave Mines hope. Nick Kubala scored in the 78th minute from an assist by John Moseley. It wasn't enough, though, as time ran out and Mines fell 2-1.

Daniel Brown scored both of the Mustangs goals to give them the victory.

Mines goalkeeper Denver Williams got his first start of the season. Williams had five saves on the day.

Mines will return to action this weekend with two conference road games.

CSM SOCCER FALLS TO WEST TEXAS A&M, 5-2

GOLDEN, Colo. (Oct. 5, 2007) - The Colorado School of Mines men's soccer team fell to Midwest Region rival West Texas A&M tonight at Brooks Field 5-2.

West Texas got on the board first as they scored 31 minutes into the first half. Mines answered back quickly, as Nick Kubala scored just one minute later with an assist from John Moseley.

Mines was the second to attack, as Craig Thompson scored his 13th goal of the season 14 minutes into the second half, giving Mines a 2-1 lead. Two minutes later, West Texas answered back tieing the game at two apiece.

The Buffalos went on to score three unanswered goals in the 79th and 87th minutes, giving them the 5-2 victory.

Mines falls to 7-3-2 overall. The Orediggers will return to action Sunday with a home game against Midwestern State at 1:00 pm.

CSM SOCCER PLAYS TO 1-1 TIE AGAINST ST. EDWARD'S

BOERNE, Texas. (Oct. 1, 2007) - The Colorado School of Mines men's soccer team played to a 1-1 tie Sunday afternoon, in their second game of the Incarnate Word mini tournament. For a complete box score click here.

The Orediggers were down 1-0 after St. Edward's scored just 10 minutes into the first half. Mines would continue to play from behind for the majority of the game, until Brian Lacinski found the back of the net.

Lacinski's unassisted goal with just seven minutes remaining, sent the game into overtime. After two 10-minute sudden death periods, the game ended in a 1-1 tie.

Mines is now 7-2-2 overall and will return to action this weekend with a game on Friday night against West Texas A&M at 7:00 pm.


CSM SOCCER TOPS INCARNATE WORD, 4-3

BOERNE, Texas. (Sept. 28, 2007) - The Colorado School of Mines men's soccer team handed Incarnate Word their first loss of the season Friday night with a 4-3 victory. For a complete box score click here.

The Orediggers, ranked seventh in the Midwest Region, took out the number one ranked team Friday night after Grant Manthey scored the game-winning goal with only 24 minutes remaining in the game. Despite Incarnate's quick start, the Orediggers were able to answer back. Incarnate scored the first goal of the game just 12 minutes into the first half.

Craig Thompson scored three of the Orediggers' four goals to keep them in the game. Thompson's first goal tied the game at one apiece after a pass from John Moseley. His third goal put the Orediggers up 3-2 after Brian Lacinski connected with him.

The Orediggers improved to 7-2-1 on the season with the win and will return to action on Sunday with a game against St. Edward's at 11:00 am.

CSM SOCCER FALLS TO REGIS UNIVERSITY, 1-0

GOLDEN, Colo. (Sept. 23, 2007) - The Colorado School of Mines men's soccer team fell 1-0 this afternoon at Brooks Field to conference rival Regis University.

After a scoreless first half, Regis' Sterling Copeland connected on a pass from Sean Murphy in the 72nd minute, giving the Rangers a 1-0 lead and the eventual victory.

The Orediggers out shot the Rangers 15 to 9 but were unable to get anything going.

Craig Thompson led the team with three shots, while goalkeeper Kevan Thurman ended with six saves.

The Orediggers will return to action this weekend with two games on the road. They will face Incarnate Word on Friday and St. Edward's on Sunday, both games will be played on Incarnate Word's campus.

CSM SOCCER TIES #19 METRO STATE 1-1

GOLDEN, Colo. (Sept. 21, 2007) - The Colorado School of Mines men's soccer team played to a 1-1 tie tonight at Brooks Field against the #19 ranked team in the nation.

Craig Thompson scored his ninth goal of the season in the 23rd minute of the first half to give Mines a 1-0 lead. His goal came from a Nao Lee thrown in that went to Nick Kubala who passed it to Thompson. Metro answered back in the second half when Andrew Donnelly scored with 21 minutes remaining to send the game into overtime.

After two scoreless overtime periods, the game ended in a 1-1 tie.

Goalkeeper Kevan Thurman ended the night with nine saves for Mines.

The Orediggers will return to action Sunday with a home game against Regis University at 2:30 pm.

FORT LEWIS DEALS OREDIGGERS FIRST LOSS OF 2007 SEASON

DURANGO, Colo. (Sept. 16, 2007) - Fort Lewis College defeated Colorado School of Mines by the score of 4-1 on Sunday afternoon in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) men's soccer action at Dirks Field.

CSM's John Moseley recorded the first goal of his collegiate career in the 23rd minute (22:05; unassisted) to give the Orediggers a 1-0 halftime advantage. The Skyhawks, however, tallied four unanswered goals in the second half en route to improving their record to 4-2-0 overall (3-2-0 RMAC).

The Orediggers fell to 6-1-0 overall (4-1-0 RMAC) with the loss.

CSM will host Metro State on Friday, September 21st, at 7:30 p.m., and Regis University on Sunday, September 23rd, at 2:30 p.m.

CSM MEN'S SOCCER IMPROVES TO 6-0-0 (4-0-0 RMAC)
WITH VICTORY AT MESA STATE

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (Sept. 14, 2007) - The Colorado School of Mines men's soccer team remained undefeated with a 3-0 shutout victory this afternoon at Mesa State College (0-5-1 overall, 0-4-0 RMAC).

The Orediggers, who are currently ranked fourth in the NCAA Division II Midwest Region, tallied their first score at 10:51 when Ted Decker capitalized on a Brian Lacinski pass. Ted Decker registered his second goal of the match (fourth of the season; assist to Grant Manthey) at 59:31 and Nick Kubala concluded the scoring with his fourth goal of the year in the 83rd minute (82:16; John Moseley assist).

Starting GK Kevan Thurman (now 6-0-0) picked up the win for the Orediggers, who improved to 6-0-0 overall (4-0-0 RMAC).

CSM will play at Fort Lewis on Sunday, Sept. 16th, at 2:30 p.m.

CSM MEN'S SOCCER IMPROVES TO 5-0 WITH WIN OVER
UC-COLORADO SPRINGS

GOLDEN, Colo. (Sept. 9, 2007) - The Colorado School of Mines men's soccer team won its fifth game in a row this afternoon with a 3-0 win over UC-Colorado Springs.

The Orediggers ended their three-game homestand with another win today at Brooks Field when they shutout the visiting Mountain Lions from UCCS.

Senior forward Craig Thompson had one of his best games of the season, as he scored all three of the Orediggers' goals. Thompson scored his first goal of the game just two minutes into the first half. His second two goals came in the 75th and 82nd minutes.

Goalkeeper Kevan Thurman also had an impressive three-game homestand as he ended with his third shutout in a row. Thurman had six saves on the day.

CSM will play at Mesa State and Fort Lewis on Sept. 14th and 16th, respectively.

CSM MEN'S SOCCER SCORES 3-0 VICTORY OVER CSU-PUEBLO

GOLDEN, Colo. (Sept. 7, 2007) - The Colorado School of Mines men's soccer team won its fourth game in a row to keep a perfect record with a 3-0 win over CSU-Pueblo tonight at Brooks Field.

Mines went into halftime with a 1-0 lead after Nick Kubala connected with Ted Decker 30 minutes into the game.

The Orediggers continued their pressure in the second half scoring two more goals. Craig Thompson headed a goal into the lower lefthand corner of the net with an assist by Nao Lee. The third and final goal of the night came on a free kick, when John Moseley passed the ball to Nick Kubala who lofted it in over the keeper's head.

Kevan Thurman got his third shutout of the season, he faced eleven shots and had seven saves on the night.

Mines will play Sunday afternoon at 2:00 pm at Brooks Field against CU-Colorado Springs.

CSM MEN'S SOCCER WINS FIRST HOME GAME OF THE SEASON WITH VICTORY OVER COLORADO CHRISTIAN

GOLDEN, Colo. (Sept. 5, 2007) - The Colorado School of Mines men's soccer team opened up its first home game of the season with a 2-0 victory over Colorado Christian University on Wednesday afternoon.

Senior Craig Thompson scored both of the Orediggers' goals with assists from Grant Manthey and John Moseley. The two goals were Thompson's third and fourth of the season.

Goalkeeper Kevan Thurman got his second shutout of the season, he only faced four shots on the afternoon with two saves.

Mines will return to action with a home game on Friday night at 7:30 against conference foe CSU-Pueblo.

CSM MEN'S SOCCER TEAM OPENS UP SEASON
WITH TWO WINS OVER THE WEEKEND

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (Aug. 26, 2007) - The Colorado School of Mines men's soccer team opened up the 2007 season this weekend with two victories on the road.

Mines faced the University of Mary on Friday on Westminster College's campus in Utah, while they turned around to face Westminster College on Sunday afternoon. Mines came away with two victories, defeating Mary 5-0 and Westminster 3-2.

Senior forward Craig Thompson ended the weekend with two goals and four assists, while defender Nick Kubala led the defense with his two goals and one assist. Also scoring goals this weeked were Max Nevermann (two goals and an assist against Mary), Ted Decker (one goal against Mary) and Jason Decker (game-winning goal Sunday against Westminster College).

Freshman Brian Lacinski opened up his collegiate career with an assist in Friday's game.

The Orediggers will return to action September 5th when they will play their first home game of the season against Colorado Christian.

CSM ranked third in 2007 RMAC Men's Soccer Pre-Season Coaches Poll;
Nick Kubala Preseason Defensive Player of the Year

GOLDEN, Colo. (Aug. 14, 2007) – The Colorado School of Mines men’s soccer team was picked to finish third in 2007 in the conference, according to The Rocky Mountain Athletic
Conference Preseason Coaches Poll, as announced early today by the RMAC.

Senior defender Nick Kubala was picked as the 2007 Preseason Defensive Player of the Year along with being named to the Preseason All-RMAC team. Senior Craig Thompson was a unanimous decision as he too was named to the Preseason All-RMAC team.

The Orediggers were picked to finish third in the Conference behind Metro State and Fort Lewis. Metro was picked to win the RMAC with the Fort Lewis Skyhawks finishing second. CSU-Pueblo, Regis, UC-Colorado Springs, Mesa State and Colorado Christian rounded out the eight team conference poll.

Mines finished third last season in the RMAC with a 9-3 conference record and a 13-7-1 overall record.
