CSM WOMEN'S SOCCER
ENDS SEASON WITH 3-0 LOSS TO NEW MEXICO
HIGHLANDS
GOLDEN, Colo. -The Colorado School of Mines women's soccer team finished regular season play this afternoon with a 3-0 setback to New Mexico Highlands University. Highlands got off to an early lead Sunday afternoon when Veronica Padilla scored only a minute and 45 seconds into the game. Padilla's goal put the cowgirls up by one going into half. Highlands continued the goal scoring in the second half, as Gina Duttle found the back of the net on a free kick putting the Cowgirls up by two. Highlands last goal of the game came in the 81st minute with a goal scored by Heather Henesey, making the final score 3-0. Mines ended the day with 12 shots, four of which were on goal. Goalkeeper Jenny Gradishar (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo Cenntenial) ended the game with six saves. -OREDIGGERS- CSM WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO METRO STATE, 3-0 DENVER, Colo. -The Colorado School of Mines women's soccer team fell to the Metro State Roadrunners Sunday afternoon, 3-0. Ranked in the top ten in the Country, the Roadrunners got off to an early lead, scoring their first goal just seven minutes into the game. They went into halftime with 2-0 lead. The Orediggers were still unable to find the back of the net, while Metro scored one goal in the second half, ending the game 3-0. The Orediggers were led by goalkeeper Jenny Gradishar's (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo Centennial) four saves. -OREDIGGERS- CSM WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO MESA STATE, 1-0, IN FINAL MINUTES GOLDEN, Colo. -The Colorado School of Mines women's soccer team fell to the Mesa State Friday afternoon, 1-0, as Lauren Sell made a penalty shot with only five minutes remaining in the game. Goalkeeper Jenny Gradishar (Pueblo, Colo./Centennial) had four saves on the day, while both Anne Newman (Sedalia, Colo./Sedalia) and Corrine Johnson (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Mountain Vista) had two shots a piece. The Oredigger have two games remaining this season, the next will be Sunday afternoon when they travel to face conference leaders, Metro State. Mines will finish its season October 22 with a home match against New Mexico Highlands at 11:00 am. -OREDIGGERS- CSM WOMEN'S SOCCER TIES COLORADO CHRISTIAN, 1-1 LAKEWOOD, Colo. -The Colorado School of Mines women's soccer team played to a 1-1 tie Sunday afternoon. CSM took the early lead 28 minutes into the first half when freshman forward Kayla Mitchell (Ontario, Ore./Ontario) scored off of a pass from Mikayla Buenger (Evergreen, Colo./Evergreen). CCU's Samantha Dean answered back seven minutes later with a goal off of Cheran Stewart's pass. Dean's goal tied the game at one a piece. The tie puts Mines record at 5-6-4 and 2-4-3 in the RMAC. The Orediggers will return to action Friday with a 4:00 matchup against the Mesa State Mavericks. -OREDIGGERS- CSM WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO REGIS, 4-1 GOLDEN, Colo. - Regis University's Kelly Labor scored two first half goals and Amy Wadginski added a pair in the second half to lead the Rangers to a 4-1 victory over Colorado School of Mines in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action Friday night at Brooks Field. Labor's first tally was a penalty kick, while her second goal came just 1:05 later. Both of Wadginski's goals were assisted by Nina Banducci. CSM sophomore midfielder Diane Wetzel (Villa Park, Calif./Villa Park) netted a goal in the 78th minute for the lone Oredigger goal. The Orediggers (5-6-3, 2-4-2 RMAC) will return to action on Sunday afternoon when they travel to Colorado Christian for a 1:00 pm match. -OREDIGGERS- CSM WOMEN'S SOCCER SCORES 6-2 VICTORY OVER COLORADO CHRISTIAN GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines women's soccer team came away with their second conference win this evening after a 6-2 win over the Colorado Christian Cougars. After a close first half, Mines went into overtime with 1-0 lead off of a penalty shot made by defender Ann Newman (Sedalia, Colo./Sedalia). In the second half, the Orediggers came out firing as they scored five of their six goals, giving them the victory. Diane Wetzel (Villa Park, Cali./Villa Park) led the Orediggers as she finished the night with two assists and two goals. Both of Christians goals were scored by Laura Leathers. The women will return to action this Friday with a 7:00 home game against the Regis University Rangers. -OREDIGGERS- CSM WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS AT CSU-PUEBLO, 1-0 PUEBLO, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision at Colorado State-Pueblo's Rawlings Sports Complex on Tuesday afternoon. The lone goal of the match was scored by Holly Taylor at the 71:45 mark. CSM freshman goalkeeper Jenny Gradishar (Pueblo, Colo./Centennial) posted five saves, while CSU-Pueblo's Brandy Garcia had six to earn the shutout. HIGHLANDS, 0-0 LAS VEGAS, N.M. - The Colorado School of Mines women's soccer team played to a 0-0 draw at New Mexico Highlands in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action Friday afternoon. Freshman goalkeeper Jenny Gradishar (Pueblo, Colo./Centennial) posted 12 saves for the Orediggers, who were outshot, 17-13. The Orediggers will return to action on Sunday when they host CSU-Pueblo for a 11:30 am match at Brooks Field. -OREDIGGERS- CSM Women's Soccer Crushes York College 4-0; Mitchell Gets Second Hatrick in a Row GOLDEN, Colo. - Colorado School of Mines freshman Kayla Mitchell (Ontario, Ore./Ontario) led her team to a 4-0 win over York College Friday night, after scoring three goals for the second game in a row. Kayla Mitchell, the freshman from Ontario, Ore. led her team Friday night, ending the night with yet another hatrick. Mitchell also had an assist on the Orediggers first goal of the game, when she connected with Mikayla Buenger (Evergreen, Colo./Evergreen). The Hatrick is Mitchell's second of the season, the first being yesterday when the Orediggers scored a 5-0 victory over York. Freshman Goalkeeper Jenny Gradishar came away with a shutout on the night with two saves. The Orediggers will return to action Friday with an away game against New Mexico Highlands. -OREDIGGERS- CSM Women's Soccer Crushes York College 5-0 GOLDEN, Colo. - Colorado School of Mines freshman Kayla Mitchell (Ontario, Ore./Ontario) led her team to a 5-0 win over York College Thursday afternoon, after scoring three goals for the Orediggers. The Orediggers got off to a quick start as they led the Panthers 4-0 going into halftime. Mitchell scored Mines' first and second goals, while Mikayla Buenger (Evergreen, Colo./Evergreen) and Ashley Laughlin (Sevierville, Tenn./Sevierville County) also found the back of the net. Both shots loughed over the goalies head from outside the goal box. Mitchell went on to score her third goal of the game, giving her a hatrick on the day twenty four minutes into the second half. Mines improves their overall record to 3-4-1. The women will return to action tomorrow night with a 7:00 home matchup against York again. -OREDIGGERS- CSM Women's Soccer Drops Another Close One, Falls 3-2 to Mesa State GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines women's soccer team lost their second close game of the weekend, when they fell to the Mesa State Mavericks 3-2 in double overtime. For the second game in a row, the Orediggers found themselves behind going into half. Mesa scored with just thirty seconds remaining in the first half, when Mallory Reids shot deflected off of a Mines defender. Mines came out in the second half scoring two goals in a row, making the score 2-1. Mikayla Buenger (Evergreen, Colo./Evergreen) got her second goal of the season, off of a pass from freshman Kayla Mitchell (Ontario, Ore./Ontario). Mitchell then went on to score Mines' second goal, making it her fourth of the season. Mesa State answered back tieing the game with just fifteen minutes remaining. After a scoreless first overtime, the game was sent into double overtime, where Lauren Sell of Mesa found the back of the net three minutes into the second overtime period, giving the Mavericks the 3-2 win. Mines will return to action Thursday September, 14 with a game against York College. -OREDIGGERS- CSM Women's Soccer Unable to Come Away with Win Against Fort Lewis GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines women's soccer team was unable to come away with a win Friday night, as they fell to the Fort Lewis Skyhawks 3-2. After traling 2-0 going into halftime, the Orediggers came out firing as they were able to score the game up 2-2 with twenty minutes remaining in regulation. Mines first goal of the second half was scored by defender Ann Newman (Sedalia, Colo./Douglas County). Newman's goal is her second of the season. With just twenty minutes remaining freshman Merika Treants (Arvada, Colo./Lakewood) tied up the game 2-2 for Mines. Fort Lewis's Kate Mahler put the game away, as she scored the game winning goal for the Skyhawks with just nine minutes remaining. Mines goalkeeper Marissa Burson (Farmington, N.M/Piedra Vista) ended the night with seven saves. Mines will return to action Sunday night with an away game against Mesa State. Game time is at 1:00 pm -OREDIGGERS- CSM Women's Soccer Gets Overtime Win Over Adams State, 3-2 GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines women's soccer team topped Adams State this afternoon after a 3-2 win in overtime. Freshman forward Kayla Mitchell (Ontario, Ore./Ontoario) scored her second game winning goal of the season, and her third overall Sunday afternoon as the Orediggers got their second win of the season against the ASC Grizzlies. Defender Ann Newman (Sedalia, Colo./Douglas County) got the Orediggers off to a 1-0 start, with her goal in the thirteenth minute of the first half. Grizzlies Sara Lyles answered back with her goal with just ten minutes remaining in the half. The second half, Lyles found the back of the net once again, giving the Grizzlies a 2-1 lead. The Orediggers refused to give up as Alyson Burchardt (Franktown, Colo./Douglas County) scored her first goal of the season, sending the game into overtime. Five minutes into overtime, Mitchell put the game away with a free kick just outside the goal box. Mitchell's goal was her second game winning goal, her first one being Friday night against Bethel. Mines will return to action Sept. 8 with a road game against Fort Lewis College. -OREDIGGERS- CSM Women's Soccer Tops Bethel, 1-0 GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines women's soccer team came away with their first victory of the season, as they topped Bethel College (MN) 1-0. Mines outshot the Royals 23-4, but was only able to come away with one goal on the night. The Orediggers lone goal came with only two minutes remaining in the game. Diane Wetzel (Villa Park, Cali./Villa Park) setup the play as Mikayla Buenger (Evergreen, Colo.Evergreen) passed it to Kayla Mitchell, (Ontario, Ore.Ontario) who put it away in the back of the net, giving the Orediggers the 1-0 win. The goal was Michell's second of the season. The win is the first of the season and puts their overall record at 1-2-1. CSM will return to action on Sunday when it hosts Adams State at 11:00 am on Sunday at Brooks Field. -- OREDIGGERS -- CSM Women's Soccer Team Falls 4-1 to #12 Ranked Regis University DENVER, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines women's soccer team fell to the #12 nationally ranked team in the country, The Regis University Rangers, 4-1 Wednesday night. In their first official game in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, the Orediggers had to face a tough team who is ranked second in the conference and #12 in all of Division II. Things looked good for the Orediggers, as they scored the first goal of the game, when freshman Kayla Mitchell (Ontario, Ore./Ontario) connected with Mikayla Buenger (Evergreen, Colo./Evergreen) giving Buenger her first goal of the season and Mines a 1-0 lead. Regis proved why they are the #12 ranked team in Division II, as they went on to score four unanswered goals, giving them the 4-1 victory over the Orediggers. The loss drops Mines overall record to 0-2-1 and 0-1 in the RMAC. Mines will return to action Friday night with a 7:30 game against Bethel College at Brooks Field. -- OREDIGGERS -- After Double Overtime Mines Women Tie 1-1 with West Florida GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines women's soccer team came away with a 1-1 tie against the Argonauts from West Florida University Sunday afternoon. With both goals scored in the first seven minutes of the game, a scoreless rest of the game sent the women into overtime. Freshman forward Kayla Mitchell scored the Orediggers lone goal just one minute into the game, giving Mines an early lead. West Florida's Marcela Franco anwered back just five minutes later with a goal scored from a free kick just outside the goal box. Mines went into double overtime against the Argonauts, both teams failed to score ending the game in a 1-1 tie. The Orediggers are now 0-1-1 on the season, and will return to action Friday night with a 7:30 home game against Bethel College. -OREDIGGERS- Mines Women's Soccer Drops Season Opener 1-0 Against Montana State-Billings GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines Women's soccer team dropped their first game of the season Thursday night, when they fell to the MSU-Billings Yellowjackets by a score 1-0. The Yellowjackets lone goal of the game was scored in the first half by Brittney Sandau. Sandau's goal was good enough to give the Yellowjackets the win. Mines goalkeeper Marissa Burson had three saves on the night while Kayla Mitchell and Adrea Johnson led the team with two shots a piece.
