CSM WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS 3-1
TO CSU-PUEBLO IN RMAC SEMIFINALS DENVER, Colo. (Nov. 2, 2007) - The third-seeded Colorado School of Mines women's soccer team fell to the second-seeded CSU-Pueblo Thunderwolves this afternoon in the RMAC Tournament semifinals by a score 3-1 at Metro State's Auraria Field. The Orediggers found themselves trailing 2-0 going into halftime, as the Thunderwolves scored in both the 27th and 42nd minutes. Alyson Burchardt kept the Orediggers' hopes alive as she closed the gap to 2-1 after her unassisted goal with 14 minutes remaining in the game. CSU-Pueblo put it away for good as they went on to score with only a minute and a half remaining, ending the game at 3-1. CSM goalkeeper Bri Schulze ended the day with six saves. Despite the loss, Burchardt was named to the RMAC All-Tournament Team for her performance in the game. The Orediggers end their 2007 season with an overall record of 12-8-1. With the 12 wins, CSM established the most wins in program history since women's soccer became a varsity sport at Mines in 2005. RMAC SEMIFINALS GOLDEN, Colo. (Oct. 31, 2007) - Colorado School of Mines advanced into the RMAC semifinals with a 3-0 quarterfinal victory over #6 seed N.M. Highlands University tonight at Brooks Field. The third-seeded Orediggers jumped out to a 1-0 lead after a pass from Elizabeth Oba connected with Kayla Mitchell, who put it into the right corner of the net. Mines went into half with a one goal lead. The second half was all Mines as they increased their lead to 3-0 with two goals from midfielder Mikayla Buenger in the 47th and 56th minutes. Goalkeeper Bri Schulze ended the night with her seventh shutout of the season. With the win, the Orediggers advance into the semifinals of the RMAC tournament. AT REGIS DENVER, Colo. (Oct. 26, 2007) - The Colorado School of Mines women's soccer team scored a 1-0 victory over Regis University on Friday afternoon. After falling to the Rangers earlier this season, the Orediggers were able to even the season series with a victory on Friday afternoon. Although Mines was outshot 14 to 5, it only took one shot to win. The Orediggers' Allison Heeg took that one shot, and it found the back of the net to give Mines the victory. Heeg scored the lone goal of the match with just 11 minutes remaining in the contest. Kelsey Lang got the assist on Heeg's goal. -OREDIGGERS- CSM WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO MESA
STATE 1-0 GOLDEN, Colo. (Oct. 22, 2007) - The Colorado School of Mines women's soccer team dropped a conference soccer match this afternoon 1-0 to Mesa State College. Mesa's Kelly Husky scored the only goal of the game just five minutes into the second half on a cross from teammate Christine Pauley. Huskys' goal proved to be the game winner as neither team was able to score for the remainder of the game. The Orediggers were led by Kayla Mitchell's four shots, while goalkeeper Bri Schulze ended with six saves. The Orediggers will play the last of their regular-season games this weekend with two road games against Regis University and New Mexico Highlands. -OREDIGGERS- CSM WOMEN'S SOCCER IMPROVES TO
10-6 WITH 5-2 GOLDEN, Colo. (Oct. 19, 2007) - The Colorado School of Mines women's soccer team improved to 10-6-0 overall and 7-2-0 in conference play, after defeating the Adams State Grizzlies tonight 5-2 at Brooks Field. The Orediggers found themselves trailing 1-0 after the Grizzlies scored a goal just three and a half minutes into the game. The Orediggers answered back in the 11th minute when Elizabeth Oba tied the game at one apiece. Defender Jessica Stark had her best game of the season, as she scored three goals on the night, including the game winner 15 minutes into the first half. Stark headed an Allison Heeg corner kick in to give the Orediggers the lead for good. VICTORY OVER CCU LAKEWOOD, Colo. (Oct. 17, 2007) - The Colorado School of Mines women's soccer team improved to 9-6-0 overall and 6-2-0 in conference play after a 2-1 victory over Colorado Christian University Wednesday afternoon. Ashley Wagener got Mines on the board first, with her unassisted goal with just five minutes remaining in the first half. CCU tied the game at one apiece just four minutes into the second half, on a free kick opprotunity. The Orediggers Kayla Mitchell scored her 11th goal of the season and the game winner on Wednesday afternoon in the 73rd minute. MATCH TO CSU-PUEBLO PUEBLO, Colo. (Oct. 15, 2007) - The Colorado School of Mines women's soccer team dropped an RMAC game Sunday afternoon, to the Colorado State University-Pueblo Thunderwolves by a score 1-0 in double overtime. CSU-Pueblo's Erica Warmack scored the game winning goal one minute and thirty seconds into the second overtime period. CSM goalkeeper Briana Schulze had a career high 17 saves on Sunday afternoon. The Orediggers finished with 14 shots, six of which were on goal. Diane Wetzel led the team with four shots. OVERCOME CSU-PUEBLO GOLDEN, Colo. (Oct. 7, 2007) - The Colorado School of Mines women's soccer team fell short to the Colorado State University-Pueblo Thunderwolves in non-conference play this afternoon 3-2. For a complete box score, click here. The Orediggers and CSU-Pueblo battled back and forth the entire game, but when all was said and done, the Thunderwolves landed on top. Mines scored the first goal of the game 18 minutes into the first half, when Elizabeth Oba passed it to Allison Heeg who put it in from 25 yards out. The Thunderwolves answered back with two goals in the 19th and 20th minutes, giving them a 2-1 lead. Just before halftime, Oredigger defender Ann Newman was able to tie it up after her free kick went through the keeper's legs and into the back of the net. The Thunderwolves took the lead for good when Robin Hayes scored 10 minutes into the second half. Mines falls to 8-5-0 with the loss, while CSU-Pueblo improves to 9-4-1. NAZARENE 7-0 GOLDEN, Colo. (Oct. 6, 2007) - Colorado School of Mines shutout NAIA opponent Trevecca Nazarene University this afternoon at Brooks Field 7-0. For a complete box score click here. The Orediggers jumped out to a 1-0 lead against the Trojans 19 minutes into the first half and never looked back. Kayla Mitchell scored the first goal of the game along with her tenth of the season with an assist from Freshman Elizabeth Oba. Mitchell's goal would prove to be the game winner, as goalie Bri Schulze shut the Trojans out with four saves. Alyson Burchardt led the Orediggers with her two goals on the day. Burchardt scored at the end of the first half to make it a hatrick, but the goal was called back after it was said time had already expired. The Orediggers improved to 8-4-0 with the win. LOSS OF THE SEASON GOLDEN, Colo. (Sept. 23, 2007) - Colorado School of Mines lost its first Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference game this afternoon with a 2-0 setback to Regis University. Regis' Carter Cornett scored both of the Rangers' goals this afternoon, with both assists from Heidi Boersma, giving Regis a 2-0 win over the Orediggers. Mines outshot the Rangers 15 to 10 but was unable to find the back of the net. Both Kayla Mitchell and Elizabeth Oba led the team with three shots apiece. Goalkeeper Bri Schulze ended the day with four saves along with stoping a penalty shot by Regis' Lexi Tagen late in the first half. Mines is now 7-4-0 overall and 5-1-0 in RMAC play. PLAY GOLDEN, Colo. (Sept. 21, 2007) - Colorado School of Mines posted a 1-0 shutout victory over the defending national champions, the Metro State Roadrunners, tonight at Brooks Field. For the box score, click here. Allison Heeg scored the lone goal of the game just six minutes into the first half. Heeg's shot from 30 yards out was lofted over the MSCD goalkeeper's head and into the back of the net. It was Heeg's second goal of the season and her first game winner. CSM goalie Briana Schulze was flawless, saving seven shots en route to the victory. With the win, Mines improves to 7-3-0 overall and remains unbeaten in RMAC play with a 5-0-0 record. Metro State, which entered the match ranked #5 in the country and first in the Midwest Region, fell to 6-2-1 overall (3-1-1 RMAC). (Sept. 16, 2007) - Colorado School of Mines posted a 2-0 shutout victory over the Fort Lewis College Skyhawks this afternoon in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) women's soccer action at Dirks Field in Durango. Kayla Mitchell's ninth goal of the year at 29:57 (unassisted) and Elizabeth Oba's second goal of the season in the 42nd minute (41:21; unassisted) paved the way for CSM to improve to 6-3-0 overall and remain undefeated (4-0-0) in RMAC play. Goalkeeper Briana Schulze (now 6-3-0), who made five saves, registered her third shutout of the 2007 campaign. (Sept. 14, 2007) - Colorado School of Mines defeated Mesa State College by the score of 3-1 on Friday afternoon in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference women's soccer action at MSC Stadium. After a scoreless first half, CSM's Elizabeth Oba scored her first goal of the season at 58:23 (unassisted) to give the Orediggers (5-3-0 overall, 3-0-0 RMAC) a 1-0 lead. Kayla Mitchell's penalty kick in the 70th minute (69:44) gave CSM a two-goal advantage. A Mesa State goal at 79:38 trimmed the Mavericks' deficit in half, but Mitchell's second goal of the match and eighth of the season - an unassisted effort with only two-and-a-half minutes remaining in the contest - proved to be the final score of the afternoon. Mesa State (4-3-1, 0-3-0 RMAC) had 19 shots on goal, compared to only eight for the Orediggers, but CSM goalkeeper Briana Schulze (now 5-3-0) made 18 saves. Friday's victory marked the fourth consecutive win for the Orediggers. MEXICO HIGHLANDS GOLDEN, Colo. (Sept. 9, 2007) - The Colorado School of Mines women's soccer team scored with only 23 seconds remaining in the game to pick up a 4-3 victory over the New Mexico Highlands University Cowgirls this afternoon at Brooks Field. The Orediggers were behind 3-2 with only six minutes remaining in the game. Sophomore Kayla Mitchell scored two goals in six minutes to give Mines the 4-3 victory. Mitchell's first goal came on a penalty shot after teammate Elizabeth Oba was taken down just in front of the net. Her game-winning goal also came with the help of Oba, who passed the ball to Mitchell in front of the net. Alyson Burchardt also had a great game for the Orediggers as she tied the game up at both 1-1 and 2-2. The win improves Mines to 4-3 overall and 2-0 in the conference. COLLEGE GOLDEN, Colo. (Sept. 7, 2007) - The Colorado School of Mines women's soccer team scored its second win in a row tonight at Brooks Field with a 2-1 win over Dana College. The win improves the Orediggers' record to 3-3. Mines got off to a quick 2-0 start with goals just one minute and ten seconds apart. The Orediggers' first goal came when Kayla Mitchell was taken down inside of the box. She capitalized on the opportunity with her successful penalty shot. Shortly after, a free kick taken by Ann Newman found itself in the back of the net. Newman set up the play with a pass to Elizabeth Oba, who then passed it in front of the net to Allison Heeg. Dana College scored its lone goal in the 71st minute when Danielle Mendoza-Farr put it in over Mines' goalkeepers head. Mines will return to action Sunday with an 11:30 am game against New Mexico Highlands at Brooks Field. - OREDIGGERS - CSM WINS 1-0 OVER COLORADO CHRISTIAN GOLDEN, Colo. (Sept. 5, 2007) - The Colorado School of Mines women's soccer team came away with a 1-0 victory tonight over Colorado Christian. Mines scored with just seven minutes remaining in the game. After a corner kick by Allison Heeg ping ponged around, forward Alyson Burchardt was finally able to get a solid kick on it, putting it in the back of the net. It was Burchardt's first goal of the season. Mines and CCU played 83 minutes of scoreless soccer, both with close opportunities. Mines fired 21 shots, 11 on goal, while the Cougars had six shots with four on goal. Mines goalkeeper Briana Schulze earned her second shutout of the season with four saves on the night. STATE-MANKATO, 3-1 GOLDEN, Colo. (Sept. 1, 2007) - The Colorado School of Mines women's soccer team fell short tonight to the visiting Mavericks from Minnesota State-Mankato by a score 3-1. The Mavericks got out to a quick 1-0 lead when a corner kick by Marti Klinsing was finished off by Gina Paletta in the sixth minute. Mines answered back with its own corner kick, when Allison Heeg found Kayla Mitchell who put it in the back of the net nine minutes into the second half. Mines' comeback was put to a stop when the Mavericks answered back just 24 seconds later, putting them up 2-1. Mankato scored one more goal ending the game at 3-1. The Orediggers will return to action on Wednesday, September 5th, at 7:00 pm. -OREDIGGERS- CSM BLANKS WINONA STATE, 1-0 GOLDEN, Colo. (Aug. 30, 2007) Colorado School of Mines defeated Winona State University by the score of 1-0 on Thursday night, August 30th, in NCAA Division II women's soccer action at Brooks Field. The Orediggers (1-2-0 overall) tallied the lone goal of the evening when Kayla Mitchell found the back of the net on a direct kick at the 6:28 mark. For Mitchell, the goal was her second of the season. CSM goalkeeper Briana Schulze (now 1-2) made five saves in the winning effort. Winona State goalkeeper Amanda Diehm (now 1-1) made 10 saves as the Warriors fell to 1-1-0 overall. FALLS IN LAST MINUTE GOLDEN, Colo. (Aug. 26, 2007) The Colorado School of Mines womens soccer team came up short against Barry University this afternoon, 2-1. With less than two minutes remaining in regulation, Barry University's Elanna Brady made a penalty shot to put the Buccaneers ahead 2-1, giving them the victory over the Orediggers. Barry got out to a 1-0 lead over Mines just 10 minutes into the first half. Play was even throughout the first half while both teams had four shots a piece. Mines came out firing in the second half, outshooting the Bucs 11 to four. Kayla Mitchell was fouled in the box in the 66th minute, giving her a chance at a penalty shot. The sophomore forward connected with the back of the net as she tied the game up 1-1. The goal was Mitchell's first of the season. Mines fell to 0-2 with the loss. FALLS TO GOLDEN, Colo. (Aug. 24, 2007) The Colorado School of Mines womens soccer team fell to #2 nationally-ranked Grand Valley State University tonight 1-0. The Lakers jumped out to a 1-0 lead 18 minutes into the first half, when Katy Tafler connected with Ashley Elsass. The Lakers remained ahead 1-0 the entire game while both teams fired back and fourth with close shots on goal the entire night. Mines goalkeeper Briane Schulze ended the night with three saves, while the Orediggers as a whole had nine shots with four on net. Kayla Mitchell had four shots for the Orediggers, while Ann Newman fired two. The Orediggers capped off their victory when a free shot by Mitchell deflected off the goalie into Jessica Stark, who put it away into the back of the net in the 73rd minute. Alyson Burchardt put the game out of reach with a goal assisted by Mitchell with only six minutes remaining. Freshman goalkeeper Briana Schulze came away with the first shutout of her collegiate career. Since this was only an exhibition game, it does not count towards the season. TO FINISH FIFTH IN THE RMAC GOLDEN, Colo. (Aug. 14, 2007) The Colorado
School of Mines womens soccer team was picked to finish fifth in
the 2007 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches Poll, as Mines was picked to finish fifth out of the nine teams in the RMAC. Metro State was picked to win the conference with five first-place votes, while Fort Lewis earned three first-place votes to finish second. Both Mesa and Regis were picked to finish third, followed by CSM, CSU-Pueblo, New Mexico Highlands, Adams State and Colorado Christian. Mines finished seventh last season with a 2-7-3 conference
record and a 5-9-4 overall record. CSM had one athlete named to the Preseason All-RMAC team.
