Fort Lewis wins 2008 RMAC Softball Tournament title GOLDEN, Colo. (May 4, 2008) - Fort Lewis College defeated Adams State College by the score of 5-2 in Championship Game #2 on Sunday afternoon, May 4th, at the CSM Softball Field to win the 2008 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Softball Tournament Championship. The Grizzlies proceeded to register a 5-3 victory (eight innings) over Fort Lewis to force Championship Game #2. FLC's Jenna Peters drove in three and Tournament MVP Cary Moone (seven strikeouts) went the distance as the Skyhawks defeated Adams State in the weekend finale. Adams State won a pair of elimination games on Saturday while the Skyhawks, who are undefeated thus far in the 2008 RMAC Softball Tournament, handed the Lopers their first loss of the weekend. Mesa State College, Metro State and the host Orediggers were all eliminated on Saturday. UNK and Adams State will square off in an elimination game on Sunday, May 4th, at 9:00 a.m. (MDT) to begin the third and final day of competition at the 2008 RMAC Softball Tournament. (Apr. 27, 2008) - The Colorado School of Mines softball team swept an RMAC doubleheader at Regis University (25-26 overall, 18-20 RMAC) on Sunday, Apr. 27th, at the Regis Softball Field in Denver. The Orediggers (37-17 overall) opened the day with a 9-0 shutout victory before prevailing 5-1 in their 2008 regular-season finale. Katie Kocman (6.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K) earned the win in game one to improve her record to 15-7. Kocman also went 2-for-4 with a double, HR (5) and four RBI. (Apr. 23, 2008) - The Colorado School of Mines softball team extended its winning streak to seven games by claiming a pair of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) victories at the University of Colorado - Colorado Springs (22-25 overall, 15-21 RMAC) on Wednesday night, Apr. 23rd, at Mountain Lion Field in Colorado Springs. The Orediggers fell in game one to the Thunderwolves 3-9 while they scored a 10-6 victory in game two. (Apr. 12, 2008) - The Colorado School of Mines softball team broke the school record for single-season victories after taking two RMAC games from Adams State College this afternoon at the ASC Softball Field in Alamosa, Colo. Mines came away with two hard-fought wins on Saturday afternoon against the Grizzlies, as they won the first game 5-3 and the second 5-4. In game one, the Orediggers trailed 2-0 going into the third inning. Mines scored three runs in the top of the third, giving them the lead for good and the eventual 5-3 victory over the Grizzlies. Katie Kocman (7.0 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 5 BB, 3 K) improved her record to 9-5 while Gina Ross ended the game 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI and a homerun (7). For the box score, click here. In game two, the Orediggers found themselves leading 4-1 going into the bottom of the fifth inning. However, the Grizzlies combined to score three runs in the fifth and sixth, and knotted the affair at four apiece heading into the top of the seventh. (Apr. 9, 2008) - Colorado School of Mines took two RMAC games from the University of Colorado - Colorado Springs on Wednesday, April 9th, in Golden at the CSM Softball Field. The two wins improve the Orediggers' record to 25-15 overall and 15-9 in the RMAC. The 25 wins ties the school record for most wins in a season, which Mines set in 2007. The Orediggers won game one 9-1 and were able to get past the Mountain Lions in game two 13-12. Four of Mines' players hit homeruns in game one. Sarah Van Lingen hit her eighth of the season and went 2-for-3 with one run and two RBI. Jennifer Newman (6), Jackye Lagen (3) and Gina Ross (6) were the three other Orediggers to hit homers. (Mar. 29, 2008) - Colorado School of Mines took two RMAC games from Metro State College this afternoon, Saturday March 29th, in Golden at the CSM Softball Field. The two wins improve the Orediggers' record to 23-11 overall and 13-5 in the RMAC. Their 13-5 conference record currently puts them at the top of the East Division. In game one, the Orediggers trailed 5-3 going into the bottom of the sixth. A double from Melissa Stratton, an error by the Roadrunners and a wild pitch led to a four-run inning for the Orediggers, who took a 7-5 lead and held the Cowgirls scoreless in the top of the seventh. Stratton ended the game 3-for-4 with two runs and three RBI's. Jennifer Newman (1.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K) got the win in relief of starter Taylor Cayou (5.0 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 3 BB, 7 K) to improve her record to 2-1. (Mar. 21, 2008) - Colorado School of Mines took two RMAC games from Fort Lewis College on Friday afternoon, March 21st, in Golden at the CSM Softball Field. Mines won the opener by the score of 6-5 after nine innings of play and went on to prevail 8-3 in game two. In game one, relief pitcher Liz Kramer came away with the win (5.2 IP, 6 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 SO) to improve her record to 6-4. After seven innings of play, the score was tied at five apiece, forcing the game into extra innings. A triple by Kaleigh Starr in the bottom of the ninth put the Orediggers in scoring position. (Mar. 16, 2008) - The Colorado School of Mines softball team split a pair of RMAC games at Western New Mexico University for the second day in a row on Sunday, March 16th, at Mustang Stadium in Silver City, N.M. The Orediggers won game one 14-13 while they dropped the second game, 10-6. In game one, Taylor Cayou (4.0 IP, 6H, 4 R, 3 BB, 1 K) got the win improving her record to 7-3. (Feb. 16, 2008) - The Colorado School of Mines softball team posted a 2-3 overall record in five games at the Schutt Sports / NFCA Division II Leadoff Classic on Thursday - Saturday, Feb. 14th - 16th, in Phoenix, Ariz. After opening the tournament with losses to St. Martin's University and Quincy University on Feb. 14th, Mines registered victories over Cal State - Monterey Bay and St. Martin's on Feb. 15th. In their final game of the weekend on Feb. 16th, the Orediggers lost to ninth-ranked St. Mary's (Tex.) University. Sarah Van Lingen, who started all five games in Phoenix, went 7-for-14 (.500) with two doubles, one HR (1), six runs scored and a pair of stolen bases. (Feb. 10, 2008) - The Colorado School of Mines softball team opened up its 2008 season this afternoon with two victories over Colorado College at the CSM Softball Field. The Orediggers scored a 22-4 win in game one followed by a 21-3 victory in game two. In game one, CSM scored 15 runs in the first inning, while four Orediggers hit homeruns. Margie Cone started off the day with an inside-the-park homerun to give the Orediggers a 1-0 lead. Gina Ross, Stacie LaRocque and Jennifer Newman also homered. LaRocque went a perfect 3-for-3 on the day with three RBI's and a double to go along with her homer.
