Fort Lewis wins 2008 RMAC Softball Tournament title

GOLDEN, Colo. (May 4, 2008) - Fort Lewis College defeated Adams State College by the score of 5-2 in Championship Game #2 on Sunday afternoon, May 4th, at the CSM Softball Field to win the 2008 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Softball Tournament Championship.

Adams State defeated the University of Nebraska - Kearney in Sunday's first game to advance into Championship Game #1 against the Skyhawks. The Grizzlies proceeded to register a 5-3 victory (eight innings) over Fort Lewis to force Championship Game #2. FLC's Jenna Peters drove in three and Tournament MVP Cary Moone (seven strikeouts) went the distance as the Skyhawks defeated Adams State in the weekend finale.

Adams State, Fort Lewis and Nebraska - Kearney
advance to final day of 2008 RMAC Softball Tournament

GOLDEN, Colo. (May 3, 2008) - Adams State College, Fort Lewis College and the University of Nebraska - Kearney have all advanced into the final day of the 2008 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Softball Tournament (hosted by Colorado School of Mines), which will be held on Sunday, May 4th, at the CSM Softball Field in Golden.

Adams State won a pair of elimination games on Saturday while the Skyhawks, who are undefeated thus far in the 2008 RMAC Softball Tournament, handed the Lopers their first loss of the weekend. Mesa State College, Metro State and the host Orediggers were all eliminated on Saturday.

UNK and Adams State will square off in an elimination game on Sunday, May 4th, at 9:00 a.m. (MDT) to begin the third and final day of competition at the 2008 RMAC Softball Tournament. The winner will play Fort Lewis in the ensuing Championship Game at 11:30 a.m. (MDT).

Should the Skyhawks suffer their first defeat of the tournament, a second Championship Game will follow at 2:00 p.m. (MDT).

Fort Lewis, Nebraska - Kearney emerge 2-0
after day one of 2008 RMAC Softball Tournament

GOLDEN, Colo. (May 2, 2008) - Fort Lewis College and the University of Nebraska - Kearney both went 2-0 during opening-day competition of the 2008 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Softball Tournament (hosted by Colorado School of Mines) on Friday, May 2nd. Games were played at the CSM Softball Field in Golden, as well as at Long Lake Ranch Park in Arvada.

Adams State College, Mesa State College, the Metropolitan State College of Denver and the host Orediggers all posted 1-1 marks on Friday. Western New Mexico University and Colorado State University - Pueblo each lost both of their games and were eliminated.

The 2008 RMAC Softball Tournament will continue on Saturday, May 3rd, with four games (9:00 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 2:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.) at the CSM Softball Field in Golden. The tournament will conclude on Sunday, May 4th, at the CSM Softball Field in Golden.

CSM takes two at Regis University;
Orediggers to host 2008 RMAC Softball Tournament

DENVER, Colo. (Apr. 27, 2008) - The Colorado School of Mines softball team swept an RMAC doubleheader at Regis University (25-26 overall, 18-20 RMAC) on Sunday, Apr. 27th, at the Regis Softball Field in Denver. The Orediggers (37-17 overall) opened the day with a 9-0 shutout victory before prevailing 5-1 in their 2008 regular-season finale.

Katie Kocman (6.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K) earned the win in game one to improve her record to 15-7. Kocman also went 2-for-4 with a double, HR (5) and four RBI. Taylor Cayou contributed two RBI's and hit her ninth homer of the season. For the box score, click here.

In game two, Liz Kramer (5.1 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 0 K) earned the win to push her record to 13-5. Kocman went 2-for-3 with a double, one run scored and two RBI. CSM splits RMAC doubleheader at Regis University

DENVER, Colo. (Apr. 26, 2008) - The Colorado School of Mines softball team split a pair of RMAC games at Regis University (25-24 overall, 18-18 RMAC) on Saturday afternoon, Apr. 26th, at the Regis Softball Field in Denver, Colo. The Orediggers fell in game one to the Rangers 5-2 while they scored a 3-2 victory in game two.

In game one, Katie Kocman (6.0 IP, 9 H, 5 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 4 K) suffered the loss and fell to 14-7. Taylor Cayou went 2-for-3 with a HR (8) and two RBI. For the box score, click here.

In game two, the Orediggers scored three runs in the top of the fifth, enough to hold off the Rangers and secure a 3-2 victory. Liz Kramer (6.0 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 1 K; now 12-5) came away with the win while Cayou (1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K) earned her second save of the year. Mines takes two at UCCS

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Apr. 23, 2008) - The Colorado School of Mines softball team extended its winning streak to seven games by claiming a pair of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) victories at the University of Colorado - Colorado Springs (22-25 overall, 15-21 RMAC) on Wednesday night, Apr. 23rd, at Mountain Lion Field in Colorado Springs. The Orediggers picked up a 16-10 win in game one before posting a 25-18 victory in the nightcap.

CSM (34-16 overall, 24-10 RMAC) scored 41 runs on 41 hits in the doubleheader as Sarah Van Lingen (12) and Taylor Cayou (7) hit three homers apiece. Cayou went a combined 7-for-9 with two doubles, five runs scored and nine RBI in the two games. Liz Kramer (3.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K) improved her record to 11-5 on the season with the win in game one while Katie Kocman (4.0 IP, 6 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 3 BB, 3 K; now 14-6) registered the win in game two. Jackye Lagen went 3-for-4 with a HR (5), two runs scored and three RBI in the opener while Melissa Stratton went 4-for-6 with three doubles, three runs scored and a pair of RBI in game two.

CSM gets two more wins against Chadron State College

GOLDEN, Colo. (Apr. 20, 2008) - The Colorado School of Mines softball team took two RMAC games from Chadron State College this afternoon at the CSM Softball Field in Golden. The Orediggers swept the Eagles over the two-day, four-game series. Mines won the first game 7-2 and went on to win the second game 12-3.

Katie Kocman (5.1 IP, 9 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 5 K) improved her record to 13-6 on the season with the win in game one, while Liz Kramer (1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K) earned her fifth save of the season. Kramer (6.0 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 2 K) also went on to claim the victory in game two, improving to 10-5 on the season. GOLDEN, Colo. (Apr. 19, 2008) - The Colorado School of Mines softball team took two RMAC games from Chadron State College this afternoon at the CSM Softball Field in Golden, winning by scores of 7-1 and 10-5.

Gina Ross led the way for the Orediggers as she hit three homers on the day, improving her season total to 12. Ross went 4-for-5 with five runs scored and four RBI over the course of two games. Jackye Lagen (4) and Taylor Cayou (3) also hit homeruns this afternoon in the Orediggers' 10-5 game-two victory. Katie Kocman (7.0 IP, 8 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K) earned the win in game one to improve her record to 12-6 while Liz Kramer (3.1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K; now 9-5) got the win in game two in relief Cayou (3.2 IP, 2 H, 4 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 K).

The Orediggers improve to 30-16 overall and 20-10 in conference play with the two wins. CSM will wrap up their four-game series against Chadron State (19-17-1 overall, 11-17-1 RMAC) on Sunday, Apr. 20th, with a doubleheader beginning at 11:00 a.m. at the CSM Softball Field.

Doubleheader at UCCS postponed

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Apr. 16, 2008) - The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) softball doubleheader between Colorado School of Mines and the University of Colorado - Colorado Springs that was originally scheduled to be played on Wednesday, Apr. 16th, has been postponed due to snow and poor playing conditions at Mountain Lion Field in Colorado Springs.

The games have been rescheduled for Wednesday, Apr. 23rd, at Mountain Lion Field in Colorado Springs. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. while the nightcap is slated to start at 7:30 p.m.

CSM softball splits a pair of RMAC games with CSU - Pueblo

ALAMOSA, Colo. (Apr. 13, 2008) - The Colorado School of Mines softball team split a pair of conference games on Sunday afternoon, Apr. 13th, in Alamosa, Colo., at the ASC Softball Field in a neutral site doubleheader against Colorado State University - Pueblo (19-20 overall, 14-16 RMAC).

The Orediggers fell in game one to the Thunderwolves 3-9 while they scored a 10-6 victory in game two.

In game one, Katie Kocman (4.1 IP, 8 H, 7 R, 6 ER, 3 BB, 0 K) suffered the loss and fell to 10-6. Melissa Stratton went 3-for-3 with a HR (1). For the box score, click here.

CSM trailed in game two 5-0 going into the top of the fourth. However, the Orediggers went on to score seven runs in the fourth giving them the lead for good as they went on to win 10-6. CSM softball breaks school record for most wins in a season

ALAMOSA, Colo. (Apr. 12, 2008) - The Colorado School of Mines softball team broke the school record for single-season victories after taking two RMAC games from Adams State College this afternoon at the ASC Softball Field in Alamosa, Colo. Mines came away with two hard-fought wins on Saturday afternoon against the Grizzlies, as they won the first game 5-3 and the second 5-4.

In game one, the Orediggers trailed 2-0 going into the third inning. Mines scored three runs in the top of the third, giving them the lead for good and the eventual 5-3 victory over the Grizzlies. Katie Kocman (7.0 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 5 BB, 3 K) improved her record to 9-5 while Gina Ross ended the game 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI and a homerun (7). For the box score, click here.

In game two, the Orediggers found themselves leading 4-1 going into the bottom of the fifth inning. However, the Grizzlies combined to score three runs in the fifth and sixth, and knotted the affair at four apiece heading into the top of the seventh. A double by Sarah Van Lingen put the Orediggers in scoring position with only one out. Kocman's subsequent single through the left side of the infield plated Van Lingen with the winning run. Kocman (2.0 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 2 BB, 2 K), who went 3-for-4 with two RBI, earned the win in relief of starter Taylor Cayou (5.0 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 0 K). CSM ties school record with two wins against UCCS

GOLDEN, Colo. (Apr. 9, 2008) - Colorado School of Mines took two RMAC games from the University of Colorado - Colorado Springs on Wednesday, April 9th, in Golden at the CSM Softball Field. The two wins improve the Orediggers' record to 25-15 overall and 15-9 in the RMAC. The 25 wins ties the school record for most wins in a season, which Mines set in 2007.

The Orediggers won game one 9-1 and were able to get past the Mountain Lions in game two 13-12.

Four of Mines' players hit homeruns in game one. Sarah Van Lingen hit her eighth of the season and went 2-for-3 with one run and two RBI. Jennifer Newman (6), Jackye Lagen (3) and Gina Ross (6) were the three other Orediggers to hit homers. KEARNEY, Neb. (Apr. 5, 2008) - The Colorado School of Mines softball team dropped a pair of RMAC games at the University of Nebraska - Kearney on Saturday, April 5th, at Dryden Park in Kearney, Neb. The Orediggers fell in game one 8-5 and 2-1 in game two.

(Mar. 30, 2008) - The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) softball doubleheader between the Metropolitan State College of Denver and Colorado School of Mines that was scheduled to be played on Sunday, Mar. 30th, in Golden has been canceled due to inclement weather and poor field conditions at the CSM Softball Field. The games will not be rescheduled.

The Orediggers (23-11 overall, 13-5 RMAC) are scheduled to play a four-game RMAC series at the University of Nebraska - Kearney on Saturday and Sunday, April 5th and 6th, at Dryden Park in Kearney, Neb.

Mines sweeps Metro State in day one action

GOLDEN, Colo. (Mar. 29, 2008) - Colorado School of Mines took two RMAC games from Metro State College this afternoon, Saturday March 29th, in Golden at the CSM Softball Field. The two wins improve the Orediggers' record to 23-11 overall and 13-5 in the RMAC. Their 13-5 conference record currently puts them at the top of the East Division.

In game one, the Orediggers trailed 5-3 going into the bottom of the sixth. A double from Melissa Stratton, an error by the Roadrunners and a wild pitch led to a four-run inning for the Orediggers, who took a 7-5 lead and held the Cowgirls scoreless in the top of the seventh. Stratton ended the game 3-for-4 with two runs and three RBI's. Jennifer Newman (1.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K) got the win in relief of starter Taylor Cayou (5.0 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 3 BB, 7 K) to improve her record to 2-1. Four unanswered runs by the Orediggers in the fifth, and two more in the sixth, gave them the lead for good as they went on to win 6-1. GOLDEN, Colo. (Mar. 22, 2008) - Colorado School of Mines took two RMAC games from Fort Lewis College on Saturday afternoon, March 22nd, in Golden at the CSM Softball Field. The two wins completed the Orediggers' four-game sweep over the Skyhawks. The Orediggers took game one by a score 4-2 and went on to win game two 5-3.

CSM starter Liz Kramer (7.0 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K) was the winning pitcher in game one, improving her record to 7-4. Stacie LaRocque was 2-for-2 with an RBI. The Skyhawks were led by Amy Young, who was 2-for-3 with one RBI. For the box score, click here.

CSM takes two from Fort Lewis College

GOLDEN, Colo. (Mar. 21, 2008) - Colorado School of Mines took two RMAC games from Fort Lewis College on Friday afternoon, March 21st, in Golden at the CSM Softball Field. Mines won the opener by the score of 6-5 after nine innings of play and went on to prevail 8-3 in game two.

In game one, relief pitcher Liz Kramer came away with the win (5.2 IP, 6 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 SO) to improve her record to 6-4. After seven innings of play, the score was tied at five apiece, forcing the game into extra innings. A triple by Kaleigh Starr in the bottom of the ninth put the Orediggers in scoring position. The next batter up, Sarah Van Lingen, hit a sacrifice fly to leftfield to score Starr with the winning run. For the box score, click here.

Katie Kocman (six strikeouts; now 5-3) came away as the winning pitcher in game two, tossing a complete game while allowing only six hits and one earned run. Van Lingen was 3-for-4 with five RBI while Melissa Stratton went 3-for-4 with two RBI. For the box score, click here.

Mines splits with Western New Mexico in day two action

SILVER CITY, N.M. (Mar. 16, 2008) - The Colorado School of Mines softball team split a pair of RMAC games at Western New Mexico University for the second day in a row on Sunday, March 16th, at Mustang Stadium in Silver City, N.M. The Orediggers won game one 14-13 while they dropped the second game, 10-6.

In game one, Taylor Cayou (4.0 IP, 6H, 4 R, 3 BB, 1 K) got the win improving her record to 7-3. Jackye Lagen went 3-for-3 scoring two runs and batting in one while Gina Ross scored two runs and batted in three. For the box score, click here.

In game two, the Orediggers went into the bottom of the third with a 6-1 lead, eight unanswered runs by the Mustangs in the bottom of the third put them ahead for good giving them the 10-6 win. Lagen scored two runs as Kocman fell to 4-3. For the box score, click here.

SILVER CITY, N.M. (Mar. 15, 2008) - The Colorado School of Mines softball team split a pair of RMAC games at Western New Mexico University on Saturday, March 15th, at Mustang Stadium in Silver City, N.M. The Orediggers fell in game one 10-6 while they took game two from the Mustangs by a score 3-0.

In the opener, WNMU's Valerie Villela went 4-for-4 with two doubles, a HR (5), three runs scored and three RBI. Jody Clark, who also homered (1), went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI. Brianne Grommon fanned six and did not walk a batter while going the distance and improving her record to 4-6. CSM's Katie Kocman went 2-for-4 with a HR (2), two runs scored and two RBI while Margie Cone and Sarah Van Lingen each had two hits and an RBI. Mines takes DH, series at OPSU

GOODWELL, Okla. (Mar. 12, 2008) - Colorado School of Mines swept Oklahoma Panhandle State University in an NCAA Division II softball doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon, March 12th, in Goodwell, Okla. CSM won the opener by the score of 13-2 before posting an 11-2 victory in game two.

In the first game, Stacie LaRocque went 2-for-2 with two doubles, two RBI and three runs scored while Kaleigh Starr (2-for-2, two runs scored) and Katie Kocman (2-for-3) each drove in three runs. Kocman (5.0 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 3 K), who did not allow an earned run and surrendered just one hit, picked up the win to improve to 4-1. Melissa Stratton (two runs scored) went 3-for-3 and Sarah Van Lingen scored four runs as the Orediggers amassed eight runs in the first two innings. OPSU's Teena Joos fell to 1-11. Kocman went 3-for-4 with three RBI in the series finale as CSM swept the four-game set from the Lady Aggies. Stratton (two runs scored) went 3-for-5 while Starr and Peanut Eickelman rapped two hits apiece. Taylor Cayou (7.0 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 5 BB, 1 K), who did not allow an earned run, tossed a three-hit complete game while improving her record to 5-3. (Mar. 9, 2008) - Colorado School of Mines swept New Mexico Highlands University in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) softball doubleheader on Sunday afternoon, March 9th, at the CSM Softball Field in Golden, shutting out the Cowgirls 9-0 in game one and posting a 6-2 victory in game two. The two wins gave Mines the 4-0 sweep in the two-day series.

In the opener, CSM's Kaleigh Starr went 2-for-2 with a HR (4) and four RBI while Stacie LaRocque (3-for-3) drove in two runs. Orediggers post 2-3 mark at
Schutt Sports / NFCA Division II Leadoff Classic

PHOENIX, Ariz. (Feb. 16, 2008) - The Colorado School of Mines softball team posted a 2-3 overall record in five games at the Schutt Sports / NFCA Division II Leadoff Classic on Thursday - Saturday, Feb. 14th - 16th, in Phoenix, Ariz. For the box scores, click here.

After opening the tournament with losses to St. Martin's University and Quincy University on Feb. 14th, Mines registered victories over Cal State - Monterey Bay and St. Martin's on Feb. 15th. In their final game of the weekend on Feb. 16th, the Orediggers lost to ninth-ranked St. Mary's (Tex.) University.

Sarah Van Lingen, who started all five games in Phoenix, went 7-for-14 (.500) with two doubles, one HR (1), six runs scored and a pair of stolen bases. Liz Kramer, who started three games on the mound, earned a win and a save in 21.2 combined innings of work. The owner of three complete games in Phoenix, Kramer amassed a 2.26 ERA and held CSM's opponents to a .207 batting average in four total appearances.

The Orediggers (now 4-3 overall) will compete in the Mile High Invitational (co-hosted by Regis University and Metro State) on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 23rd and 24th, in Denver.

Mines opens season with two wins against Colorado College

GOLDEN, Colo. (Feb. 10, 2008) - The Colorado School of Mines softball team opened up its 2008 season this afternoon with two victories over Colorado College at the CSM Softball Field. The Orediggers scored a 22-4 win in game one followed by a 21-3 victory in game two.

In game one, CSM scored 15 runs in the first inning, while four Orediggers hit homeruns. Margie Cone started off the day with an inside-the-park homerun to give the Orediggers a 1-0 lead. Gina Ross, Stacie LaRocque and Jennifer Newman also homered. LaRocque went a perfect 3-for-3 on the day with three RBI's and a double to go along with her homer. Pitcher Taylor Cayou got her first win of the season as she allowed only six hits and four runs while striking out seven in five innings pitched. For the box score, click here.
