GOLDEN, Colo. (Oct. 23, 2007) - With his game-winning field goal last Saturday at Fort Lewis College, Colorado School of Mines place-kicker Aaron Abel is now tied for a share of the all-time Oredigger career scoring record. Abel, a 60, 185-lb. senior from Cheyenne, Wyo. (Cheyenne East High School), snapped a 22-22 tie and lifted Colorado School of Mines (5-3 overall, 4-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) to a victory over the Skyhawks by connecting on a 36-yarder as time expired on Saturday afternoon, October 20th, at Ray Dennison Memorial Field in Durango, Colo. Abel now has 240 career points scored, which ties him with former Oredigger running back Greg Marshall (1989-92) for the CSM career scoring record. The owner of 79 points as a freshman, 86 as a sophomore, 63 as a junior and now 12 as a senior, Abel earned First Team All-RMAC and Second Team NFF All-Colorado accolades as a junior. A two-time Academic All-RMAC performer in the classroom, Abel connected on 13-of-18 field goal attempts in 2006, including a career-long 50-yarder at Western New Mexico University. Abel, who garnered Second Team All-RMAC laurels following his freshman and sophomore seasons, also earned Third Team All-Southwest Region honors in 2006. A Pre-Season All-RMAC selection in 2006 and 2007, Abel was selected as a Pre-Season All-American by Don Hansens National Football Gazette as a junior. For his career, Abel has connected on 138-of-146 extra point tries (94.5 %) and 34-of-53 field goal attempts (64.2 %). Furthermore, Abel holds CSM records for single-season extra points made (64) and career extra points made (138). Winners in each of their past four games, the Orediggers will return to action this Saturday, October 27th, hosting the University of Nebraska Kearney.
