Oredigger WBB program receives commitment from Charchalis

GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines women's basketball program has received a commitment from Angie Charchalis (Craig, Colo. / Moffat County High School) to begin playing for the Orediggers in 2008-09, as announced today by CSM Head Coach Paula Krueger.

Charchalis, a 5'7" guard who will graduate from Moffat County in 2008, earned Second Team All-State and Western Slope 4A Player of the Year accolades as a junior in 2006-07. An All-Conference pick in the Western Slope League during each of the past two years, Charchalis guided MCHS to the 4A Final Four during her sophomore campaign in 2005-06. Moffat County also advanced to the 4A Sweet Sixteen during Charchalis' freshman and junior seasons.

"We are very excited to add a student-athlete of Angie's caliber to our team," said Krueger, who begins her fifth season at CSM in 2007-08. "Angie has a scorer's mentality and can flat-out shoot the ball. She will add a strong set of handles to our perimeter."

Charchalis, who averaged 16.0 points, 5.4 assists, 4.1 rebounds and 4.6 steals per game as a junior, served as Class President in 2004-05. A four-year member on Moffat County's Student Council, Charchalis also served as Class Vice President in 2005-06 and 2006-07.

A multi-sport athlete at Moffat County, Charchalis received Honorable Mention All-Conference recognition in volleyball following the 2005 and 2006 seasons. Charchalis was also a State qualifier in track for the 800-meter and 4x800-meter events in 2005 and 2006.

The Orediggers will begin their 2007-08 season by playing Northern State University on Friday, November 16th, at Wayne State College, in Wayne, Neb. CSM will also square off against Wayne State on Saturday, November 17th. Colorado School of Mines will then return home to host Grand View College on Friday, November 23rd, and Johnson & Wales University (Colo.) on Sunday, November 25th. Both games are scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. at Lockridge Arena on the CSM campus.
