Herbert commits to play WBB at Colorado School of Mines

GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines women's basketball program has received a commitment from Rachel Herbert (Greeley, Colo. / Northridge High School) to begin playing for the Orediggers in 2008-09, as announced today by CSM Head Coach Paula Krueger.

A 6'0" forward, Herbert averaged 9.8 points, 7.9 rebounds and 3.9 blocks per game during her senior season at Northridge in 2007-08. A two-time All-Northern Conference selection (2006-07, 2007-08), Herbert also garnered Academic All-State honors as a senior.

"Rachel will be a great addition to our team on the court, as well as in the classroom," said Krueger, who will begin her sixth season at Mines in 2008-09. "Rachel adds size, strength and the ability to finish at the low block to our post position. We are very excited about our incoming freshmen, and we are thrilled to be able to add Rachel to that group."

The Orediggers' 13 victories in 2007-08 (13-16 overall, 8-11 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) marked the fifth consecutive season that the team had reached double figures in wins. Mines had three players named to the 2007-08 All-RMAC teams, including Brecca Gaffney, who was selected as the East Division Freshman of the Year. CSM also had four student-athletes qualify for recognition on the Academic All-RMAC teams in 2007-08.
