FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Hughes resigns as head coach of CSM swimming & diving teams GOLDEN, Colo. - Dave Hughes has resigned his position as the head coach of the swimming & diving teams at Colorado School of Mines, as announced today by Director of Athletics Tom Spicer. Hughes' resignation, effective March 14th, 2008, comes after guiding the CSM swimming & diving teams during the past seven seasons (2001-02 to 2007-08). During his time with the Orediggers, Hughes coached 10 All-Americans and one NCAA Division II National Champion (Brian Pursley, 100 Breaststroke in 2002). Twelve other CSM student-athletes garnered Honorable Mention All-American accolades under Hughes, who led the Oredigger men and women to top 25 finishes at the NCAA Division II national championships in 2003. The Orediggers also excelled in the classroom under Hughes, earning a combined total of 12 College Swimming Coaches Association (CSCA) Academic All-America Team awards. "We are very grateful for the time and effort that Coach Hughes has dedicated to our men's and women's swimming & diving programs," said Spicer. "We wish Coach Hughes all the best in his future endeavors." Kevin Sage, who began his first season as the diving coach at Mines in 2007-08, has been named the interim head coach of the CSM men's and women's swimming & diving programs.
