FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Carty, Fogle commit to CSM women's basketball program GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines women's basketball program has received National Letters of Intent from Katie Carty (Springfield, N.J. / Northern Burlington County Regional High School) and Stephanie Fogle (Glendale, Ariz. / Apollo High School) to begin playing for the Orediggers in 2008-09, as announced today by CSM Head Coach Paula Krueger. A 6'3" center, Carty averaged 17.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 6.0 blocks and 3.5 assists per game during her senior season at Northern Burlington in 2007-08. A two-time Second Team All-County selection (sophomore and junior seasons), Carty earned First Team All-County, Liberty Division Scholar-Athlete of the Year and BCSL All-Star accolades as a senior in 2008. Carty also competed in volleyball at Northern Burlington, garnering First Team All-County, Second Team All-County and Offensive Player of the Year honors. A BCSL All-Star in volleyball (junior year), Carty was selected as the Best Defensive Player in both sports during her prep career. A Student Council President at Northern Burlington, Carty is a member of the High Honor Roll, the National Honor Society and the Spanish National Honor Society. "Katie is a great addition to our program on and off the court," said Krueger, who will begin her sixth season at Mines in 2008-09. "Academically, she is an outstanding student and a great fit for Mines. At 6'3", she adds obvious height and length to our post position along with much-needed depth. Offensively she finishes well around the basket and defensively she disrupts so many things in the paint. Katie will be a great asset to our basketball team." A 5'5" guard, Fogle averaged 16.5 points, 3.9 assists, 3.2 rebounds and 2.1 steals per game during her senior season at Apollo in 2007-08. Fogle, who garnered First Team All-Region accolades following her sophomore, junior and senior seasons, was selected as the Western Sky Region Player of the Year in 2007-08. The MVP of the Payson Tournament in 2007 and a two-time Honorable Mention All-State selection (junior and senior years), Fogle was named to the All-West Valley Team in 2008. A member of the National Honor Society, Principal's List and Honor Roll at Apollo High School, Fogle earned Scholar-Athlete recognition during the first three years of her prep career. "I am very excited to add Stephanie to our team," Krueger said. "She has a scorer's mentality and still has the ability to run the show from the point guard position. Stephanie brings much-needed depth and scoring ability to our perimeter. She is an outstanding student and will be a great addition to Mines both on and off the court." The Orediggers' 13 victories in 2007-08 (13-16 overall, 8-11 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) marked the fifth consecutive season that the team had reached double figures in wins. Mines had three players named to the 2007-08 All-RMAC teams, including Brecca Gaffney, who was selected as the East Division Freshman of the Year. CSM also had four student-athletes qualify for recognition on the Academic All-RMAC teams in 2007-08.
