Demby-Myers, Lippitt & Moore compete at
NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving National Championships

COLUMBIA, Mo. (Mar. 11, 2008) - Colorado School of Mines divers Simon Demby-Myers, Chandra Lippitt and Chris Moore competed at the 2008 NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving National Championships on Tuesday, March 11th, at the Mizzou Aquatic Center in Columbia, Missouri (University of Missouri campus). All three individuals competed in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events (the top 16 move on to the prelims, while the top eight in the prelims go on to the finals). In the men's 3-meter competition, Demby-Myers just missed making it to the prelims with his 18th place finish (184.35) while Moore placed 24th (124.15). In the men's 1-meter event, Demby-Myers finished 23rd (167.05) while Moore was 24th (164.55).

Chandra Lippitt came away with a 21st place finish (181.95) in the 3-meter event while she was 26th (138.35) in the 1-meter.

The national meet concludes Lippitt's diving career at Mines. Lippitt departs the CSM swimming & diving program as the school record holder in the 3-meter (six dives, 270.60; 11 dives, 429.96) and 1-meter events (six dives, 264.51). Demby-Myers and Moore are both juniors.

CSM swimming & diving sends four to Last Chance Meet

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (Mar. 3, 2008) - The Colorado School of Mines swimming & diving team sent four athletes this past weekend (Feb. 29 - Mar. 1) to compete in the Drury University Last Chance Meet in Springfield, Missouri. For complete results, click here.

Two Orediggers achieved NCAA "B" cuts, but unfortunately were unable to meet the "A" cut required to qualify for the national meet.

Kevin Shaw achieved an NCAA "B" cut time of 4:09.46 in the 400 Individual Medley, while Sergey Piletski met the standard in both the 200 IM (1:57.15) and 200 Breaststroke (2:09.04).

Mines' 800 Freestyle Relay (Shaw, Piletski, Kevin Wood and Aaron Miller) also swam well, as they achieved a season-best time of 7:08.85.

Next up, Mines will be sending three divers (Simon Demby-Myers, Chandra Lippitt and Chris Moore) to compete at the 2008 NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving National Championships (hosted by Missouri University of Science & Technology) on March 12-15 at the Mizzou Aquatic Center in Columbia, Missouri (University of Missouri campus).

CSM's women's swimming & diving team wins Rocky Mountain Invitational;
Oredigger men finish second

GOLDEN, Colo. (Feb. 14-16, 2008) - The Colorado School of Mines women's swimming & diving team won the Rocky Mountain Invitational this weekend at the CSM Natatorium while the Oredigger men finished second.

CSM's women scored 670.5 points in their victory while the men registered 920 points en route to a runner-up finish. The University of Texas - Permian Basin won the men's team title with 929.5 points. For complete results, click here.

CSM had three individuals earn championship awards. Angel Forsling was named the Female Swimmer of the Meet while Chandra Lippitt was the Female Diver of the Meet. CSM's Kevin Sage was named the Men's Diving Coach of the Meet.

The Orediggers had 14 event winners throughout the three-day competition; while two met B cut standards and one qualified for nationals.

Diver Simon Demby-Myers finished second in both the 1-meter and 3-meter events. His performance in the 1-meter and 3-meter events qualified him for the NCAA Division II National Championships which will be held on March 12-15. Demby-Myers scored 428.10 in the finals of the 1-meter and 413.92 in the 3-meter.

Female diver Chandra Lippitt came away with a first and second-place showing over the weekend. Lippitt won the 3-meter with 428.10 points and came in second in the 1-meter with 364.12 points.

On the swimming side, both Kevin Shaw and Sergey Piletski swam B cut standards. For Shaw, it was the second time this season that he had swam B cut standards in both the 200 and 400 Individual Medley events. Shaw swam to victory in the 400 IM (4:12.14) and the 200 Breaststroke (2:13.04) and finished second in the 200 IM (1:58.13). With his first place time of 1:57.31 in the 200 IM, Piletski improved upon the B cut standard he established earlier this year. Piletski went on to win the 200 Backstroke (1:56.51) and finished third in the 400 IM with a time of 4:23.40.

Brian Coates, Kevin Wood and Aaron Miller also found themselves winning individual titles. Coates swam to victory in the 100 Butterfly (52.50), Wood won the 200 Freestyle (1:46.65) and Miller won the 1650 Freestyle (17:26.03).

For the women, Angel Forsling led the way as she won three individual titles. Forsling won the 100 Butterfly (1:00.53), 100 Breaststroke (1:09.90) and the 200 Breaststroke (2:30.25). Along with her individual victories, Forsling was also a member of the winning 400 IM Relay and 200 IM Relay teams. The women's 400 IM team consisting of Forsling, Renee Rainguet, Becca Walthall and Libby Richards won the event with a time of 4:12.53 while the 200 IM team made up of Forsling, Rainguet, Richards and Andrea Casias swam to a 1:54.10 victory. Casias was the third female Oredigger to come away with an individual title as she won the 200 Butterfly in a time of 2:21.26.

Selected Orediggers will compete at the Last Chance Meet at Drury University on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 29th and Mar. 1st, at Breech Pool in Springfield, Missouri.

The NCAA Division II Championships will be held on March 12-15 in Columbia, Missouri.

CSM Swimming Hosts DU; Diving Competes at USAFA

GOLDEN, Colo. (Feb. 4, 2008) - The Colorado School of Mines swimming teams hosted Denver University on Saturday, Feb. 2nd, at the CSM Natatorium, while the diving squads competed at the U.S. Air Force Academy on both Friday and Saturday.

The Oredigger men and women fell to DU's swim teams Saturday. DU defeated the CSM men 198-64 while the Pioneer women defeated Mines 208-49. For complete results, click here.

The meet was highlighted by individual victories by Angel Forsling and Sergey Piletski.

Forsling swam to a first-place finish in the 100 Breaststroke, finishing in a time of 1:09.56. Also fairing well for the CSM women was Andrea Casias, who finished second in the 200 Butterfly in a time of 2:25.00.

Sergey Piletski led the men, as he won the 200 Individual Medley (2:00.43). Kevin Shaw (2:03.44) was second in the event while Kevin Wood was third (2:05.81). Piletski also finished second in both the 100 Breaststroke (1:01.28) and 200 Backstroke (2:00.14).

At Air Force, the divers had some great individual performances against Division I competition. On day one, the men were led by Simon Demby-Myers' 13th-place finish in the men's 3-meter event. Chris Moore finished 15th while Josh Auger was 19th. For the women, Chandra Lippitt finished 21st in the 1-meter event, while teammate Meredith Riegle was 23rd.

Moore finished in 14th in the men's 1-meter event on day two, while Demby-Myers was 16th and Auger was 18th. Lippitt finished 19th in the 3-meter event while Riegle placed 24th. For complete results, click here.

The Orediggers will return to action on Thursday - Saturday, Feb. 14th - 16th, when they host the Rocky Mountain Invitational at the CSM Natatorium.

CSM's Swimming & Diving teams compete at Colorado College Classic

GOLDEN, Colo. (Jan. 28, 2008) - The Colorado School of Mines swimming & diving teams competed at the Colorado College Classic on Saturday, Jan. 26th, in Colorado Springs. For complete resultas, click here.

Of the 14 events held on Saturday, Mines finished either first or second in nine of them. CSM was led by freshman Sergey Piletski and sophomore Angel Forsling.

Piletski won two individual events while Forsling won one. Piletski swam to an individual win in the 200 Breaststroke (2:12.92) and the 100 Backstroke (54.54). He also finished second in the 400 IM (4:20.43) behind teammate Kevin Shaw, who won the event with a time of 4:17.95. Forlsing was victorious in the women's 200 Breaststroke with a time of 2:32.24, finishing just ahead of teammate Renee Rainguet (2:32.93).

Diver Chandra Lippitt won the 1-meter diving event for the third weekend in a row with a score of 382.15. CSM's Meredith Riegle finished second in the event with a score of 326.40.

The Orediggers will be split into two squads this coming weekend. The swimming team will host the University of Denver on Saturday, Feb. 2nd, while the divers will travel to the U.S. Air Force Academy to compete in the predominately Division I competition in Colorado Springs on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 1st and 2nd.

CSM women register 129-96 victory over Cal State - East Bay

GOLDEN, Colo. (Jan. 18, 2008) - The Colorado School of Mines women's swimming & diving team recorded a 129-96 victory over California State - East Bay (NAIA) on Friday evening at the CSM Natatorium. For complete results, click here.

The Orediggers had six individual victories, one school record and a relay team swim to a season-best on Friday night. The 200 yard Medley Relay team consisting of Andrea Casias, Renee Rainguet, Angel Forsling and Libby Richards won the event in a season-best time of 1:56.64.

After qualifying for the NCAA Division II Nationals just one week ago, diver Chandra Lippitt had yet another great night. The senior broke her own school record once again in the 3-meter event with a first-place score of 270.60. Lippitt also won the 1-meter event (235.65) on Friday night.

Richards led the Orediggers in the swimming events, posting victories in the 50 yard Freestyle (26.60) and the 100 yard Freestyle (58.11). Also capturing victories were Rainguet in the 400 yard Individual Medley (4:57.97), Heidi Heim in the 100 Butterfly (1:07.05), Chelsea Fagan in the 100 Backstroke (1:06.91) and Forsling in the 500 Freestyle (5:48.51).

The CSM men's and women's swimming & diving teams will compete at the Colorado College Classic on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 25th, 26th and 27th, in Colorado Springs.

Oredigger men and women prevail over Metro State

GOLDEN, Colo. (Jan. 12, 2008) - The Colorado School of Mines swimming & diving teams hosted Metro State College on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 11-12, at the CSM Natatorium. Both squads were victorious in the dual meet, as the men outscored Metro 149-93 and the women claimed a 123-113 victory over the Roadrunners. Two CSM divers, Chandra Lippitt and Chris Moore, highlighted the event by qualifying for the NCAA Division II National Meet. For complete results, click here.

Chandra Lippitt not only won both the 1-meter (386.17) and 3-meter (429.96) diving events, but she also qualified for the NCAA Division II Nationals while doing so. Joining her was teammate Chris Moore, who also qualified for Nationals with a second-place score of 466.94 in the men's 3-meter diving event. Nationals will be held on March 12-15 in Columbia, Missouri (at the University of Missouri).

On the swimming side, Nate Siedler, Bo Beins, Brian Coates and Travis Ransom teamed to register a victory in the 200 Medley Relay. Kevin Shaw, Fabian Brunetti and Angel Forsling all recorded multiple victories while Renee Rainguet, Rebecca Walthall, Sergey Piletski, Cliff Preston and Eric Straily won individual events, as well.

The CSM women will host California State - East Bay on Friday, Jan. 18th, at 5:00 p.m. at the CSM Natatorium. The Oredigger swimming & diving teams will also compete at the Colorado College Classic on Friday - Sunday, Jan. 25th - 27th, in Colorado Springs.

CSM swimming & diving teams compete at UNLV Winter Invitational

LAS VEGAS , Nev. (Dec. 15-17, 2007) - The Colorado School of Mines men's and women's swimming & diving teams competed at the University of Nevada - Las Vegas (UNLV) Winter Invitational on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, Dec. 15th, 16th and 17th. For complete results, click here.

The Orediggers were paced by Kevin Shaw, who achieved NCAA National "B" Qualification Standards in the 400 Individual Medley (10th, 4:09.26), the 200 Breaststroke (12th, 2:09.61) and the 200 Individual Medley (21st, 1:56.73). Shaw now needs only one "A" cut to become eligible to swim in all three events at the 2008 NCAA Division II National Championships on March 12-15 in Columbia, Missouri (at the University of Missouri). Sergey Piletski posted a pair of top 20 performances, taking 18th in the 200 Backstroke (1:55.62) and 20th in the 200 Breaststroke (2:11.17).

For the women, Angel Forsling made it to the finals in three events. Forsling broke her own school record with a time of 1:08.47 in the 100 Breaststroke prelims before going on to place 20th (1:08.76) in the finals. Forsling also finished 23rd in both the 100 Butterfly (1:01.01) and the 200 Breaststroke (2:29.90).

In the diving events, Chandra Lippitt finished fifth in the 3-meter event (193.65) and ninth in the 1-meter competition (179.15). For the men, Simon Demby-Myers placed 10th in the 1-meter competition (194.80) and 18th in the 3-meter event (149.05). Chris Moore took 16th place (164.10) in the 3-meter event, as well.

Furthermore, three-fourths of the CSM swimming & diving squads performed at least one lifetime best during the UNLV Winter Invitational championships.

The Oredigger swimming & diving teams will return to action on Saturday, January 12th, hosting Metro State at 10:00 a.m.

CSM men's swimming & diving wins Mutual of Omaha Invitational

OMAHA, Neb. (Dec. 1, 2007) - The Colorado School of Mines men's swimming & diving team claimed the team title on Saturday night at the Mutual of Omaha Invitational, while the Oredigger women finished fourth. For the complete results, click here.

For the CSM men, Aaron Miller won the 500 Freestyle with a time of 4:50.80. Sergey Piletski and Kevin Shaw finished first and second, respectively, in both the 200 Individual Medley and the 200 Breaststroke. Piletski finished with a time of 1:57.99 in the 200 IM and 2:11.45 in the Breaststoke while Shaw was right behind at 1:59.19 and 2:13.45. Chris Moore won the men's 1-meter diving competition with a personal-best score of 324.80, as well.

For the Oredigger women, Angel Forsling won her second event of the two-day meet, earning a victory in the 200 Breaststroke (2:27.83). Chandra Lippitt recorded a personal-best score (348.10) to win the women's 3-meter diving event.

CSM will return to action on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, December 15th, 16th and 17th, at the UNLV Winter Invitational.

CSM men's swimming & diving hosts the University of Wyoming

GOLDEN, Colo. (Nov. 17, 2007) - The Colorado School of Mines men's swimming & diving team hosted the University of Wyoming on Friday night at the CSM Natatorium. The men fell to the Cowboys, 145-96. For complete results, click here.

Sergey Piletski recorded the lone Oredigger individual victory on Friday. Piletski won the 200 yard Breaststroke with a time of 2:14.00, two seconds faster than the second place finisher. Piletski also finished second in the 200 yard Butterfly with a time of 2:05.28 (six seconds behind the winner).

The CSM men's and women's swimming & diving teams will return to action on Friday and Saturday, November 30th and December 1st, at the Mutual of Omaha Invitational (University of Nebraska - Omaha host).

CSM swimming & diving hosts CU club team in exhibition

GOLDEN, Colo. (Nov. 3, 2007) - The Colorado School of Mines swimming & diving teams hosted the University of Colorado club team in an exhibition meet on Saturday at the CSM Natatorium.

The CSM men defeated the Buffaloes by the score of 267-169, while the CU women recorded a 216-202 triumph over the Orediggers.

The Oredigger men will next be in action on Friday, November 16th, hosting the University of Wyoming at 5:00 p.m. at the CSM Natatorium.

Colorado School of Mines will also compete in the Mutual of Omaha Invitational, hosted by the University of Nebraska - Omaha, on Friday and Saturday, November 30th and December 1st.

CSM Swimming & Diving Competes at Early Bird Invitational

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (October 21, 2007) - The Colorado School of Mines swimming & diving teams competed in the Early Bird Invitational held by Colorado State University on Saturday afternoon. For complete results, click here.

The women finished ninth out of 10 teams while the men were sixth of six.

The Orediggers turned in some impressive individual performances Saturday. On the men's side, freshman Fabian Brunetti finished sixth out of 21 swimmers in the 200 Backstroke with a time of 2:01.32. Sergey Piletski also turned in a great performance in the 200 Breaststroke, finishing seventh with a time of 2:18.05.

Angel Forsling turned in a 13th place finish (out of 41) in the women's 200 Breaststroke, posting a time of 2:35.98.

The Orediggers will return to action with an exhibition meet at CU-Boulder on November 2nd.

Women's Swimming & Diving Competes at First Home Meet of Season

GOLDEN, Colo. (October 19, 2007) - The Colorado School of Mines women's swimming & diving team competed in its first home meet of the season with duals against the University of Nebraska - Omaha and Mesa State College on Friday evening. For complete results, click here.

The Orediggers fell to UNO 77-58 and to Mesa 71-67.

Mines was led by sophomore Angel Forsling, who finished the night with a victory in the 100 Butterfly (1:03.43). Forsling also finished second in the 200 Butterfly (2:25.24) and third in the 100 Freestyle (58.16). Also capturing a first-place finish for the Orediggers was Olivia Bromley. Bromley finished first in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:57.90.

CSM's Meredith Riegle placed first in the 1-meter diving event (177.98) and Renee Rainguet won the 200 Breaststroke with a time of 2:33.55.

The CSM swimming & diving teams will compete at the Colorado State University Early Bird Invitational on Saturday, October 20th.

Orediggers Compete at U.S. Air Force Academy

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (October 13, 2007) - The Colorado School of Mines swimming & diving teams competed at the U.S. Air Force Academy Invitational on Saturday afternoon, October 13th, in Colorado Springs. For complete results, click here.

The CSM women went 5-3, defeating Colorado College (143.00 to 42.00), Grand Canyon University (swimming; 157.00 to 32.00), Mesa State (116.00 to 110.00), Metro State (140.00 to 72.00) and Nebraska - Kearney (150.00 to 63.00). The Oredigger women also lost to Boise State University (196.00 to 42.00), the University of Denver (201.00 to 39.00) and the U.S. Air Force Academy (174.00 to 63.00).

The Oredigger men posted a 3-2 mark, recording wins over Colorado College (173.00 to 53.00), Grand Canyon University (swimming; 165.00 to 46.00) and Metro State (127.00 to 101.00). The CSM men also fell to the University of Denver (192.00 to 45.00) and the U.S. Air Force Academy (203.00 to 40.00).

The CSM women will host the University of Nebraska - Omaha and Mesa State on Friday evening, October 19th, at the CSM Recreation Center Natatorium at 6:00 p.m.

CSM SWIM TEAM OPENS UP SEASON AT DU RELAYS

DENVER, Colo. (October 12, 2007) - The Colorado School of Mines swimming & diving teams opened up their 2007-08 season with a meet at the University of Denver on Friday afternoon.

The meet was an event consisting of relay events. The women's team finished fourth out of five teams while the men were third out of three.

Mines' highest finish was a third place showing in the men's 300 Yard Breaststroke Relay. The team consisting of Sergey Piletski, Eric Straily and Kevin Shaw finished in a time of 3:10.78. Wyoming was first in the event while Denver finished second.

The Orediggers will compete at the U.S. Air Force Academy on Saturday, October 13th.
