CSM MEN'S TRACK PLACES 25th AT NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Colorado School of Mines men's outdoor track and field team placed 25th at the 2007 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships contested over the weekend at Johnson C. Smith University. The Orediggers totaled nine points. Senior Larry McDaris (Colorado Springs, Colo./Palmer) earned six points by placing third in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 3:48.58. In addition, senior Joel Hamilton (Colorado Springs, Colo./Liberty) scored three points with a sixth place showing in the 10,000-meter run. He recorded a time of 30:05.26. McDaris and Hamilton each earned All-American honors for their performances. The top eight finishers in each event earn All-American status. Hamilton also placed 11th in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 14:47.10. In addition, senior Greg Reindl (Green Mountain, Colo./Washington U.) reached the finals in the 5,000-meters, but came up short in his bid for All-American status by placing ninth (14:29.79). Sophomore Mark Husted (Westminster, Colo./Northglenn) and classmate Sean Cusick (Westminster, Colo./South Dakota Tech) also ran at nationals, but did not reach the finals. Husted finished 18th in the prelims of the 800-meters (1:53.89), while Cusick was 16th in the prelims of the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:37.98). The event concludes the season for CSM. - OREDIGGERS - CSM TRACK AND FIELD COMPETES AT WESTERN STATE LAST CHANCE GUNNISON, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines outdoor track and field teams competed at the Western State College Last Chance Meet on Saturday afternoon. Three male athletes came away with outstanding marks for the Orediggers. Senior Henry Scott (Colorado Springs, Colo./Wasson) won the decathlon with a school record 6,055 points. Sophomore Mark Husted (Westminster, Colo./Northglenn) ran a provisional qualifying mark in the 800-meters (1:51.45), while classmate Sean Cusick (Westminster, Colo./South Dakota Tech) also ran a provisional time in winning the steeplechase with a time of 9:14.95. The Orediggers will return to action from May 24-26 at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field National Championships to be contested at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, N.C. -OREDIGGERS- CSM Men and Women Finish Fifth At Outdoor Track and Field RMAC Championships ALAMOSA, Colo.- Both the men and women's track and field teams finished fifth this past weekend at the Outdoor Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships held in Alamosa May 6-8. The women finished fifth out of nine teams with 47 points while the men finished fifth out of seven teams with 88 points. Adams State won both the men's and women's team titles while Western State was second. The Orediggers came away with some great individual performances while many earned All-Conference Accolades. Leading the way for CSM was Nick Maynard who was the only Oredigger to come home with a conference title. Maynard finished first in the men's 800 meters. His time of 1:53.9 was less than one second ahead of Adam States Aucencio Martinez. Also for the men, Alex Lockhart finished second in the men's high jump clearing a height of 6'-8.25" earning him first team All-Conference honors. Also earning first team All-Conference for the men were Jeremy Wells who finished third in the 400 meter hurdles in a time of 53.9, Joel Hamilton's third place finish in the 5K, John Tallerday (3rd, 10K), Ian Storz (3rd, 110 meter hurdles). Earning a provisional qualifying time in his event was Sean Cusick. Cusick finished fourth in the men's steeplechase with a time of 9:45.40, a provisional qualifying time. For the women, Savannah Afoa just missed a qualifying mark in the discus. Afoa finished second in the event with a throw of 143'-09", earning her first team All-RMAC. Kaity Edmiston also earned All-RMAC with her second place finish in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.6 seconds, she then went on to finish fifth in the 400 meter hurdles. Also earning All-RMAC was Mellisa Rhodes who finished second in the pole vault and Gina Nichols second place jump of 37'-09.5" in the triple jump. For many, the conference championships was the last meet of the season, while others will continue on to the 2007 NCAA Division II National Championships which will be held May 24-26 in Charlotte, N.C. A list of those who will compete will be released as soon as the final list is completed. -OREDIGGERS-
CSM Track and Field Qualify Three Over the Weekend ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - For the second time this season, The Colorado School of Mines track and field team was split into two. The majority of the team made the trip to Albuquerque, N.M to compete at the Don Kirby Memorial Invitational while three others competed in Michigan at the Gina Hillsdale Relays. Mines had three individuals qualify for the 2007 Outdoor National Championships, while two athletes broke school records. All three men that made the trip to Michigan came away with with either a national qualifying time or a school record. Larry McDaris (Colorado Springsw, Colo./Palmer) broke the school record in the mile with a time of 4:08.64. Greg Reindl (Lakewood, Colo./Green Mountain) and Joel Hamilton (Colorado Springs, Colo./Liberty) both competed in the men's 5000 meters, where each ran provisional times. Reindl finished sixth in the race in a time of 14:12.12 while teammate Hamilton was right behind in 14:20.81. In New Mexico, Kaity Edmiston (Palisade, Colo./Palisade) broke the school record in the 400 meter hurdles for the second weekend in a row. Her time of 1:04.13 broke the record and put her in third place. Sean Cusick (Westminster, Colo./South Dakota Tech) had one of the best performances in his career as he won the steeplechase in an NCAA provisional mark of 9:33.37 which converts to 9:18.99 after the altitude adjustment. Also winning his event was sophomore Alex Lockhart (Swink, Colo./Swink), Lockhart cleared a height of 6-8.75 in the high jump, giving him the victory. Next up for the Orediggers will be the 2007 Rocky Mountain
Athletic Conference Championships which will be held May 6-8 in Alamosa,
Colo. at Adams State College.
Two CSM Track and Field Individuals Break Records Over the Weekend FORT COLLINS, Colo.. - The Colorado School of Mines Track and Field Team had two individuals break school records this weekend at the Jack Christiansen Invite held by Colorado State Univeristy in Fort Collins. Savannah Afoa (Anchorage, Alaska) broke the school record in the women's discus throw. Her throw of 139'-04" broke the previous record of 138'-08" held by Sarah Thaler in 1986. Also breaking a school record this weekend was Freshman Kaity Edmiston (Palisade, Colo./Palisade). Edmiston broke the record in the 400 meter hurdles. The previous record of 1:07.13 by Patti Griffith in 1982 was broke when Edmiston ran a time of 1:05.54 Larry McDaris (Colorado Springs, Colo./Palmer) ran to a provisonal mark in the men's 800 meters finishing second overall and first for collegiate runners in a time of 1:52.99. Also finishing second in his event and first for collegiate runners was Greg Reindl. Reindl ran 3:56.37 in the 1500 meters to record a provisional qualifying mark. Clifton Oertli joined Reindl in registering a provisional qualifying mark in the 1,500-meters. Finally, Dan Liechty placed second in the steeplechase and also recorded a provisional qualifying mark in the process. Mines will return to action this weekend with a meet in Albuquerque, N.M. CSM Track Team Qualifies Four Over the Weekend WALNUT, Cali.. - The Colorado School of Mines Track and Field Team was split into two squads this weekend while some went to California to compete in the pretigious Mt. SAC Relays while others stayed here and competed in the Colorado College Invitational. The Orediggers had four individuals qualify for the NCAA Nationals at the Mt. SAC relays, while both the men's and women's teams won the Colorado College Invitational. Larry McDaris highlighted Mines trip to California as he won the Olympic Development 1500 meters in a shcool record and NCAA Division II automatic qualifying time of 3:46.23. Other provisional qualifiers at Mt. SAC included Greg Reindl in the 5000 meters with a time of 14:39.85, Joel Hamilton in the 10,000 meters who ran a time of 29:45.25 and the lone female Heather Beresford who qualified with a time of 4:40.16 in the women's 1500 meters. While these four made their mark, the rest of the team was busy competing at the Colorado College Invitaional. Both the men's and women's squads won the meet. The women finished with 127 points ahead of Colby Community College who finished second with 104 points, they were followed by (3) Air Force (57), (4) Colorado College (56), (5) Metro State (44), (6) CU-Colorado Springs (43) and (7) Colorado State University (20). The Oredigger men won the meet with 231 points. They were followed by (2) Air Force (120), (3) Colorado State University (41), (4) CU-Colorado Springs (40), (5) Colorado College (39), (6) Metro State (28) and (7) Colby Community College (27). The Orediggers will return to action this weekend at the Jack Christiansen Invitational. -OREDIGGERS-
Reindl and McDaris Compete in California Over the Weekend; Both Qualify For Nationals PALO ALTO, Cali.. - The Colorado School of Mines Track and Field Team sent two of their distance runners this past weekend to compete in sunny California in some top notch meets. Both Greg Reindl (Lakewood, Colo./Green Mountain) and Larry McDaris (Colorado Springs, Colo./Palmer) made the trip to California this past weekend, where they both ran national provisional marks in their events. Reindl ran to a first place finish in the men's 5,000 meters at the Chabot Distance Carnival win Hayword, Cali. His time of 14:43.44 not only gave him the victory, but it also was a provisional time for the NCAA Championships. McDaris competed at the Stanford Invitational, where he too ran a provisional time in the 1500 meters with a time of 3:50.65. He also finished second in the 800 meters in a time of 1:53.19, just missing the provisional mark. -OREDIGGERS-
CSM Track and Field Team Open Up Outdoor Season at Tom Benich Invitational GREELEY, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines Track and Field Team opened up the 2007 outdoor season with The Tom Benich Invitational held by The University of Northern Colorado. Mines had many individuals compete, along with some good performances for the first meet of competition. Heather Beresoford finished in third place in the women's 5000 meters in a time of 18:25.30. Beresford finished in third behind Adams State's Heather Wood (18:01.89) and Ashley Quintana (18:17.61). For the men, Alex Lockhart finished in fifth place in the men's high jump, clearing a height of 6-4.75. Mark Husted fiinished sixth in the 800 meters with a time of 1:55.63. Mines will return to action this weekend with a meet at The University of Colorado-Boulder on Saturday April 7th.
BERESFORD AND McDARIS EARN
ALL-AMERICAN HONORS BOSTON, Mass. - Colorado School of Mines senior Larry McDaris (Colorado Springs, Colo./Palmer) earned a pair of All-American honors, while senior Heather Beresford also earned All-American honors at the 2007 NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field National Championships at the Reggie Lewis Center contested Friday and Saturday. McDaris placed third in the mile run and the 800-meters to earn his All-American status, while Beresford was third in the mile run. It is the third straight year Beresford earned All-American honors in the mile run as she was the runner-up in 2005 and 2006. McDaris ran 4:06.62 in the mile and 1:50.69 in the 800. His time in the 800 was less than a second behind champion Nick Lara (1:49.73) of Adams State. Beresford ran a 4:47.86 in the mile. She also competed in the 5,000-meters and finished 13th in 17:18.77. The meet concludes the indoor season for CSM. -OREDIGGERS- CSM Sends Two Into Finals BOSTON, Mass. - After day one of competition at the Indoor Track and Field National Championships, Colorado School of Mines sends two individuals to the finals while the Men's DMR finished ninth. Heather Beresford and Larry McDaris both made finals after running in the prelims of their event Friday night. Beresford qualified for the finals in the women's mile after finishing second in her heat with a time of 4:56.12. McDaris also qualified in the men's mile after winning his heat, he then went on to run the prelims in the 800 meter where he finished second in his heat, sending him to the finals on Saturday. Also competing for the men in the 800 meters was senior Matt Walsh. Walsh finished 11th overall, missing finals by just one second. The DMR was the only final event on Friday, where the Oredigger men finished in a dissappointing ninth place in the nine team field. Finals will take place today, Saturday March 10th. Results will be posted as soon as possible. -OREDIGGERS- CSM Sends Five to NCAA Track Nationals GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines track team qualified five individuals for the 2007 Division II NCAA Indoor Track and Field Nationals, which will be held March 9-13 in Boston, Mass. Heather Beresford will be the only female for Mines making the trip, as she will compete in both the women's mile and 5,000 meters. Beresford goes into Boston in search of a national title in the mile. The senior has finished in the runner-up position the past two years in this event. Beresford is currently ranked third in the mile and fourth in the 5K. Larry McDaris will have his plate full as he is set to
race in three events. McDaris will compete in both the 800 meters and
the mile, while he anchors the men's Distance Medley Relay team. McDaris
is ranked sixth in the mile and seventh in the 800. Teammate Matt Walsh
also will be making the trip to Boston to compete in the 800 along with
the DMR. Clifton Oertli and Mark Husted round out the athletes going
to Nationals for Mines as they both are part of the DMR team. Heather Beresford Wins the 800 and Mile at RMAC Championships
GOLDEN, Colo. - Senior Heather Beresford (Monument, Colo./Lewis Palmer) won both the women's 800 meters and mile this afternoon, earning her RMAC Track Athlete of the Year and Athlete of the Meet, an award she also won in 2006. Beresford got sweet revenge in the women's mile as she out kicked Adam State's Tonya Gaurmer. Gaurmer barely beat Beresford last year at the National Meet, taking away a National Title from Beresford. Her time of 5:05.96 was nearly five seconds faster than Gaurmer's time of 5:11.22. An hour later, the senior turned around to out kick another Adam State runner, only this time it was in the women's 800 meter run. Beresford ran to a 2:15.31, a national provisional mark which ranks her 14th in the nation. Also fairing well on the women's side was Freshman Kaity Edmiston (Palisade, Colo./Palisade). Edmiston earned second team All-Conference with her fourth place finish in the women's 60 meter hurdles. For the men, Alex Lockhart (Swink, Colo./Swink) won the men's High Jump with a provisional qualifying jump of 2.04 meters. The win was the only individual victory for the Mines men's team. Larry McDaris (Colorado Springs, Colo./Palmer) finished second in the men's 800 meters while he was third in the mile. McDaris' time of 1:54.11 was a provisional mark while he also provisionally qualified in the mile with a time of 4:21.24. Senior Matt Walsh improved his 800 meter time, as he ran to a third place finish in a time of 1:54.61. His time should move him up on the national list in the event. CSM QUALIFY THREE OVER THE WEEKEND LINCOLN, Neb.. - The Colorado School of Mines track and field squad had three national qualifiers this past weekend at the Prarie Wolf Invitational in Lincoln, Neb. On the women's side, senior Heather Beresford ran to a victory in the women's 5,000 meters in a filed full of Division I runners. Her time of 17:00.52 provisionall qualifies her for the National Meet and put her fifty seconds ahead of Adams State's Heather Wood, who finished second in the race. For the men, Matt Walsh and Mark Husted both ran provisional marks in the men's 800 meters. The two finished seventh and eighth respectively. Walsh finished in a time of 1:53.27 while Husted was just a tick behind in 1:53.87. Mines will return to action this weekend when they host the RMAC Championships on Friday and Saturday. -OREDIGGERS-

at the Air Force Open, making him unbeaten this season. Mines will return to action on February 10th when they host the CSM All-Comers meet. -OREDIGGERS- Orediggers Track Team Opens Up Indoor Season With Joe Davies Open GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines track and field team opened up the 2007 indoor season this afternoon with its annual Joe Davies Open. Both the men's and women's teams finished third behind Adams State and Western State. On the men's side, Adams won the meet with 236 points followed by Western (147.5), CSM (81.5) and Metro (9). Adams State's women also won the meet with 175 points, while Western was second with 171 points, CSM in third with 72 and Metro in fourth with 17. Mines had three individual winners, along with provisional qualifying times. Larry McDaris led the Orediggers with both a win and a national qualifying time in the men's mile run. His time of 4:18.26 is a national qualifying time. Also winning his event with a qualifying time was Matt Walsh. Walsh's time of 1:54.77 gave him a three second win over CSM's Mark Husted in the men's 800 meters.. 2006 women's mile national runner-up Heather Beresford ran to a first place finish in the women's 800 meters with a time of 2:18.97.
