CSM VOLLEYBALL FALLS TO KEARNEY, 3-0, IN NCAA TOURNAMENT

KEARNEY, Neb. - The Colorado School of Mines volleyball team fell in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, 3-0, to top-ranked Nebraska-Kearney at the Heath & Sports Center on Friday night.

CSM concludes its season with a school-record 20 wins against 11 losses and its first berth in the NCAA Tournament in program history.

On Friday night, the Orediggers were led by junior outside hitter Caitlin Mabe (Lakewood, Colo./Denver Lutheran) who posted eight kills, while sophomore setter Ashley Pagel (Brighton, Colo./Northern Colorado) dished out 23 assists.

UNK (34-1), which will play Mesa State in the second round on Saturday, received 12 kills from Erin Gudmundson and 10 kills from Kelli Bangar. Rachel Gerdes handed out 39 assists for the Lopers, who are hosting the Southwest Regional this weekend.

CSM VOLLEYBALL FALLS TO METRO STATE, 3-2, IN RMAC SEMIFINALS

KEARNEY, Neb. - The seventh-seeded Colorado School of Mines volleyball team fell to third-seeded Metro State, 3-2, in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament Semifinals on Saturday night in the UNK Heath & Sports Center.

CSM, now 20-10 this season, must wait until Sunday night to see if it will be one of eight teams from the Southwest Region to earn a bid to the NCAA Division II Tournament. Metro State (21-7) will now play top-seeded Nebraska-Kearney in the RMAC Championship on Sunday. The Lopers advanced with a 3-0 win over Fort Lewis in Saturday's other semifinal.

CSM received 19 kills and seven blocks from sophomore middle hitter Nicole Leeper (Brighton, Colo./Brighton) on Saturday. Sophomore setter Ashley Pagel (Brighton, Colo./Northern Colorado) tallied a double-double with 53 assists and 18 digs, while senior libero Sarah Alsbrooks (Paola, Kan./St. Thomas Aquinas) recorded a match-best 35 digs.

Julie Green totaled a match-best 21 kills to pace the Roadrunners, while Stefanie Allison and Megan Wittenburg registered 20 kills each. Gabrielle Curtis dished out 69 assists and notched 18 digs for Metro.

Junior middle blocker Amanda Rebol (Fort Morgan, Colo./Fort Morgan) was the lone CSM player to be named to the All-Tournament Team.

CSM VOLLEYBALL TOPS MESA STATE, 3-2, IN RMAC QUARTERFINALS

KEARNEY, Neb. - The seventh-seeded Colorado School of Mines volleyball team advanced to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament semifinals with a 3-2 win over second-seeded Mesa State in the quarterfinal round on Friday afternoon at the UNK Heath & Sports Center.

Game scores were 13-30, 33-31, 30-28, 10-30, 15-10.

CSM, which is now 20-9 this season, will now face third-seeded Metro State, a 3-0 winner over CU-Colorado Springs on Friday afternoon, in the semifinals on Saturday at 5:00 pm in Kearney.

In Friday's match, CSM was led by sophomore outside hitter Kristin Evanyo (Littleton, Colo./Lakewood) who produced a team-best 10 kills. Sophomore setter Ashley Pagel (Brighton, Colo./Northern Colorado) tallied 27 assists, 13 digs and six kills, while senior libero Sarah Alsbrooks (Paola, Kan./St. Thomas Aquinas) registered 14 digs.

MSC (22-10) received 19 kills and 11 digs from Nikki Kneuer and a match-best 21 kills and 10 digs from Stacey Vogel. Allison Krug dished out 66 assists, while Kehau Regidor recorded a match best 24 digs.

CSM VOLLEYBALL FALLS AT TOP-RANKED NEBRASKA-KEARNEY, 3-0

KEARNEY, Neb. - The Colorado School of Mines volleyball team concluded its regular season with a 3-0 setback at Nebraska-Kearney, the top-ranked Division II team, on Saturday night in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.

CSM (19-9, 11-8 RMAC) received 10 kills from senior outside hitter Samantha Bauer (Lakewood, Colo./Dubai UAE). Sophomore middle hitter Nicole Leeper (Brighton, Colo./Brighton) added nine kills, while senior libero Sarah Alsbrooks (Paola, Kan./St. Thomas Aquinas) tallied a match best 18 digs.

UNK's (29-1, 19-0 RMAC) Erin Gudmundson totaled 18 kills, while Kelli Bunger added 17 and Rachel Gerdes added 40 assists and 10 digs.

CSM will return to action on Friday at 2:30 pm when it plays in the RMAC Tournament Quarterfinals. The seventh-seeded Orediggers will play second-seeded Mesa State at Nebraska-Kearney. A win would put CSM into the semfinals on Saturday at 5:00 pm against the winner of third-seeded Metro State and sixth-seeded CU-Colorado Springs.

It will be CSM's first RMAC Tournament appearance since 1997 when it lost to Regis, 3-0, in the opening round.

FORT HAYS, Kan. - The Colorado School of Mines volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision at Fort Hays State in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action Friday night in Gross Memorial Coliseum.

CSM (19-8, 11-7 RMAC) was led by senior outside hitter Samantha Bauer (Lakewood, Colo./Dubai UAE) who posted 16 kills. Sophomore setter Ashley Pagel (Brighton, Colo./Northern Colorado) finished with 51 assists, nine digs and four kills, while senior libero Sarah Alsbrooks (Paola, Kan./St. Thomas Aquinas) tallied 25 digs.

FHSU (15-14, 9-9 RMAC) was led by a 28 kill effort from Kellyn Thaut. Maxene Skidmore produced 67 assists and six digs, while Kelly Skidmore amassed 40 digs.

CSM will conclude the regular season on Saturday with a 6:00 pm match at Nebraska-Kearney.

CHADRON, Neb. - The Colorado School of Mines volleyball team set a school record for wins in a season following a 3-0 sweep at Chadron State in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action Friday night.

CSM improves to 19-7 overall (11-6 RMAC) to best the 18 wins by the 1997 squad. Chadron fell to 2-23 (1-15 RMAC).

Four CSM players recorded double digit kills in the win, including senior outside hitter Samantha Bauer (Lakewood, Colo./Dubai UAE) and junior middle hitter Amanda Rebol (Fort Morgan, Colo./Fort Morgan) who had 12 apiece. Rebol also added 12 digs. Sophomore middle hitter Nicole Leeper (Brighton, Colo./Brighton) added 11 kills and sophomore outside hitter Kristin Evanyo (Littleton, Colo./Lakewood) had 10.

Sophomore setter Ashley Pagel (Brighton, Colo./Northern Colorado) amassed 42 assists and eight digs, while senior libero Sarah Alsbrooks (Paola, Kan./St. Thomas Aquinas) contributed a match best 25 digs.

CSC was led by Alysia Wardyn who registered a match best 13 kills.

CSM will return to action on Friday night when it travels to Fort Hays State for a 7:00 pm match.

SCHOOL RECORD FOR WINS IN A SEASON

GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines volleyball team tied the school record for wins in a season as it picked up its 18th of 2005 with a 3-0 win over Regis in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action in Volk Gymnasium Tuesday night.

CSM is now 18-7 overall (10-6 RMAC), while the Rangers fall to 5-19 (4-12 RMAC).

Junior middle hitter Amanda Rebol (Fort Morgan, Colo./Fort Morgan) led the Orediggers with nine kills and 14 digs. Sophomore setter Ashley Pagel (Brighton, Colo./Brighton) amassed 35 assists, five kills and five digs, while senior libero Sarah Alsbrooks (Paola, Kan./St. Thomas Aquinas) tallied a match best 18 digs to run her season total to 556 to set a single season school record. It breaks the 555 she tallied last season.

Regis was led by Rachel Ross who produced a match best 10 kills and nine digs, while Kristin Thompson registered 14 digs.

GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines volleyball team moved within two wins of setting a single season school record with a 3-0 triumph over Colorado Christian in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action Saturday night in Volk Gymnasium. Game scores were30-24, 30-20, 30-18.

CSM improved to 17-7 (9-6 RMAC) with the win and needs one more win to tie the school record of 18 wins set in 1997.

CSM was led by senior outside hitter Samantha Bauer (Lakewood, Colo./Dubai UAE) who produced 10 kills. Senior libero Sarah Alsbrooks (Paola, Kan./St. Thomas Aquinas) registered a match best 18 digs and reached 538 for the season. She needs 18 more to break her single season record of 555 set last season. Sophomore setter Ashley Pagel (Brighton, Colo./Brighton) dished out 35 assists.

CCU received a match best 11 kills from Trisha Witkop, while Audra Tindall handed out 28 assists.

Metro, ranked second in the Southwest Region, lost the first game, 25-30, but came back to win three straight, 30-27, 32-30, 30-18.

CSM (16-7, 8-6 RMAC) was led by senior outside hitter Samantha Bauer (Lakewood, Colo./Dubai UAE) who tallied a team-high 16 kills and hit .361. Junior outside hitter Caitlin Mabe (Lakewood, Colo./Denver Lutheran) added 11 kills, while senior libero Sarah Alsbrooks (Paola, Kan./St. Thomas Aquinas) recorded a match best 31 digs.

Metro (15-6, 11-3 RMAC) was led by Julie Green who produced a match best 18 kills. Sheena Bohannon (16), Stefanie Allison (17) and Megan Wittenburg (11) also reached double digits in kills, while Gabrielle Curtis dished out 55 assits.

Leading the way for CSM was sophomore middle hitter Nicole Leeper (Brighton, Colo./Brighton) who tallied 10 kills. Junior outside hitter Caitlin Mabe (Lakewood, Colo./Denver Lutheran) added nine kills, while senior libero Sarah Alsbrooks (Paola, Kan./St. Thomas Aquinas) notched a match best 24 digs.

CC (18-5) was paced by Anna Clithero who tallied a double double with 15 kills and 12 digs.

CSM (15-6, 8-5 RMAC) was led by sophomore setter Ashley Pagel (Brighton, Colo./Northern Colorado) who amassed 37 assists, 17 digs and six kills. Senior libero Sarah Alsbrooks (Paola, Kan./St. Thomas Aquinas) had a match best 30 digs for Mines.

FLC (8-13, 8-5 RMAC) was led by LeeAnne Greenwade who amassed 15 kills, while Sara Feehan registered 11 kills and 15 digs and Teri Winfrey dished out 49 assists.

ALAMOSA, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision at Adams State in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action Friday night at Plachy Hall. Game scores were 30-24, 30-32, 32-30, 30-23.

The loss drops CSM to 15-5 overall and 8-4 in conference play, while the Grizzlies improved to 8-11 overall and 5-7 in the RMAC.

CSM was led by sophomore middle hitter Nicole Leeper (Brighton, Colo./Brighton) who tallied a match-best 19 kills. Senior outside hitter Samantha Bauer (Lakewood, Colo./Dubai UAE) and junior middle blocker Amanda Rebol (Fort Morgan, Colo./Fort Morgan) recorded 14 kills each, while sophomore setter Celeste Cashel (Glenwood Springs, Colo./Glenwood Springs) amassed 55 assists and 12 digs.

ASC was led by Emily Bussey's double double effort of 18 kills and 11 digs. Tagen Bierly dished out 57 assists, while Jocelyn Garcia notched a match-best 23 digs.

Sophomore setter Ashley Pagel (Brighton, Colo./Northern Colorado) once again was close to a triple-double with 39 assists, nine kills and nine digs. Junior middle blocker Amanda Rebol (Fort Morgan, Colo./Fort Morgan) tallied nine kills and no errors in 19 chances and added eight blocks, while senior libero Sarah Alsbrooks (Paola, Kan./St. Thomas Aquinas) recorded a match-best 21 digs.

GCU (8-13) was led by Ashley Handley who registered nine kills and Megan Taylor's double double of 30 assists and 10 digs.

Game scores were 30-22, 26-30, 30-18, 26-30, 15-12.

CSM senior outside hitter Samantha Bauer (Lakewood, Colo./Dubai UAE) amassed 16 kills to lead the Orediggers. Junior middle blocker Amanda Rebol (Fort Morgan, Colo./Fort Morgan) tallied 12 kills and 17 digs, while sophomore setter Ashley Pagel (Brighton, Colo./Northern Colorado) registered a match-best 48 assists and senior libero Sarah Alsbrooks (Paola, Kan./St. Thomas Aquinas) recorded a match-high 27 digs.

GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines volleyball team improved to 12-3 overall and 6-2 in conference play with a 3-2 victory over Colorado State-Pueblo in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action Saturday night in Volk Gymnasium.

Game scores were 28-30, 30-23, 30-25, 20-30, 15-13.

The win tied CSM's win total from last season and also pulled them within six wins of tying the school-record for wins in a season of 18 set in 1997.

Sophomore setter Ashley Pagel (Brighton, Colo./Northern Colorado) flirted with a triple double as she amassed 47 assists, 17 digs and eight kills tonight. Sophomore middle hitter Nicole Leeper (Brighton, Colo./Brighton) tallied a team-best 15 kills, while junior outside hitter Caitlin Mabe (Lakewood, Colo./Denver Lutheran) and junior middle hitter Amanda Rebol (Fort Morgan, Colo./Fort Morgan) reached double digit kills with 12 and 11, respectively.

CSM senior libero Sarah Alsbrooks (Paola, Kan./St. Thomas Aquinas) was scrappy all night and finished with a match-best 33 digs.

CSU-Pueblo (7-9, 3-5 RMAC) was led by Meagan Sater who produced 25 kills and 18 digs. In the process, she broke the school-record for career kills and now stands at 1,214.

Game scores were 30-28, 28-30, 30-18, 30-20.

Sophomore setter Ashley Pagel (Brighton, Colo./Northern Colorado) led the way with 50 assists, 12 digs, six blocks and six kills. Senior outside hitter Samantha Bauer (Lakewood, Colo./Dubai UAE) added a match best 16 kills and seven digs, while junior outside hitter Caitlin Mabe (Lakewood, Colo./Denver Lutheran) and sophomore middle hitter Nicole Leeper (Brighton, Colo./Brighton) added 11 kills apiece.

It was CSM's first win over the Tigers since 2000.

Sophomore setter Ashley Pagel (Brighton, Colo./Northern Colorado) flirted with a triple-double as she amassed a match-best 46 assists, 13 digs and seven kills. FHSU (7-6, 2-1 RMAC) received a match-best 15 kills from Ashley Holt, while Kelly Skidmore tallied a match-best 34 digs. Maxene Skidmore handed out 45 assists.

CSM (9-1, 3-0 RMAC) returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Nebraska-Kearney at 5:00 pm in Volk Gymnasium.

CSM VOLLEYBALL SWEEPS PAST CHADRON STATE, 3-0

GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines volleyball team improved to 8-1 overall and 2-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference with a 3-0 victory over Chadron State in conference action Friday night in Volk Gymnasium.

Game scores were 30-16, 30-23, 30-24.

Sophomore middle hitter Nicole Leeper (Brighton, Colo./Brighton) posted 14 kills and hit .385 for CSM. Sophomore setter Ashley Pagel (Brighton, Colo./Northern Colorado) notched 41 assists, four digs and three kills, while senior outside hitter Samantha Bauer (Lakewood, Colo./Dubai UAE) tied Leeper for game-high honors with 14 kills.

Senior libero Sarah Alsbrooks (Paola, Kan./St. Thomas Aquinas) amassed a match-best 22 digs.

CSC (1-8, 0-1 RMAC) was led by Kristin Wilder who tallied six kills. Maura Bronte registered a team-best 11 digs.

CSM will return to action next Friday when it hosts Fort Hays State at 7:00 pm in Volk Gym.

CSM VOLLEYBALL WINS AT REGIS, 3-1

DENVER, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines volleyball team improved to 7-1 (1-0 RMAC) with a 3-1 victory at Regis in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opener for both teams Tuesday night at Regis Fieldhouse.

Game scores were 30-28, 32-34, 30-27, 30-18.

CSM received a double-double effort of 35 assists and 10 kills from sophomore setter Ashley Pagel (Brighton, Colo./Northern Colorado). Senior right side Kelly Desens (Aurora, Colo./Overland) tallied 12 kills and six blocks, while senior libero Sarah Alsbrooks (Paola, Kan./St. Thomas Aquinas) registered a game-best 20 digs.

Regis (1-8, 0-1 RMAC) was led by Tricia Leger who notched a match-best 17 kills. Laura Bisio totaled 10 kills and 12 digs, while Nia Ingram amassed 50 assists and 19 digs.

The Orediggers will return to action on Friday night when they host Chadron State at 7:00 pm in Volk Gymnasium.

CSM VOLLEYBALL WINS TWO AT OWN TOURNAMENT

GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines volleyball team posted a 2-0 mark in the second and final day of the 2005 Days Inn Denver West/Oredigger Volleyball Classic with straight set wins over St. Edward's and Oklahoma Panhandle State.

In the win over St. Edward's, senior outside hitter Samantha Bauer, who was named to the All-Tournament Team, (Lakewood, Colo./Dubai UAE) tallied 18 kills and three blocks. Sophomore setter Ashley Pagel (Brighton, Colo./Northern Colorado) added 41 assists and six digs, while sophomore outside hitter Kristin Evanyo (Littleton, Colo./Lakewood) tallied 10 kills.

In the triumph over OPSU, Bauer recorded 19 kills, while Pagel dished out 46 assists.

CSM (6-1) finished the two day tournament with a 3-1 mark with the only loss coming in its first match against 18th-raked Washburn, 3-2.

The Orediggers will return to action on Tuesday night when they travel to Regis for a 7:00 pm RMAC match.

CSM VOLLEYBALL SPLITS TWO ON OPENING DAY OF TOURNEY

GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines volleyball team split a pair of matches on the opening day of the 2005 Days Inn Denver West/Oredigger Volleyball Classic in Volk Gymnasium.

CSM lost its opening match to 18th-ranked Washburn, 3-2, before defeating Montana State-Billings, 3-1, in the nightcap.

Senior libero Sarah Alsbrooks (Paola, Kan./St. Thomas Aquinas) was the story for CSM as she became the all-time leader in career digs in school history with 27 against Washburn and 22 more against MSU-Billings. She now has 1,348 career digs breaking the old mark of 1,327 digs by Jamie Henderson from 1994-97.

Against Washburn (7-0), junior middle blocker Amanda Rebol (Fort Morgan, Colo./Fort Morgan) tallied 15 kills and eight blocks, while sophomore setter Ashley Pagel (Brighton, Colo./Northern Colorado) dished out 46 assists and added 12 digs.

In the win over Billings (5-1), senior outside hitter Samantha Bauer (Lakewood, Colo./Dubai UAE) amassed 15 kills, while Pagel notched another double double with 49 assists and 10 digs.

CSM (4-1) will return to action two times on Saturday to round out the tournament. At 1:00pm, CSM will host St. Edward's before rounding out the day with Oklahoma Panhandle State at 6:00 pm in Volk Gym.

CSM VOLLEYBALL WINS THREE IN CALIFORNIA

TURLOCK, Calif. - The Colorado School of Mines volleyball team opened the season with three straight wins in California.

The Orediggers opened play on Thursday evening with a 3-1 win over Notre Dame de Namur and followed that with a 3-2 victory over Cal-State Stanislaus on Thursday night. On Saturday afternoon, CSM once again topped Cal-State Stanislaus, 3-1.

Senior outside hitter Samantha Bauer (Lakewood, Colo./Dubai UAE) led the way for CSM as she totaled 44 kills, 26 digs and eight service aces, while hitting .319 on the weekend. Bauer had her best game in the opener with 18 kills and just three errors in 27 attempts for a .556 hitting percentage. In Saturday's win, she notched a double double with 16 kills and 14 digs.

Sophomore setter Ashley Pagel (Brighton, Colo./Northern Colorado) dished out 113 assists, while senior libero Sarah Alsbrooks (Paola, Kan./St. Thomas Aquinas) recorded 84 digs. She now needs 28 more digs to break the CSM career record of 1,327.

CSM will return to action this weekend when it hosts the Days Inn Denver West/Oredigger Classic on Friday and Saturday in Volk Gymnasium.
